Other Alexandertals!
This page was begun 18 July 2001 -- rak.
Czar Alexander I had a great rapport with the Germans in Russia. As a
result there are many Alexander-something German villages. They are
often confused and mis-transcribed. Those I know of are as follows:
Alexander -- along with Saok, was an alternative name for the colony of
Borodino founded 1814/15 in Bessarabia (see Stumpp, pp.85, family names listed
512-15).
Alexanderdorf -- a Lutheran colony founded about 1818 in the South
Caucasus -- original immigrants from Wuertemberg, later from Switzerland (see
Stumpp, p.97; map on page 101 labeled Alexanderd(e); map on p.23 showing the
South Caucasus area but not specific colonies).
Alexanderfeld -- a Lutheran colony to the east of the Volga (see
Kalender 1955, p.108).
Alexanderfeld -- aka Aleschka or Dietel, a Catholic colony to the
east of the Volga (see Kalender 1955, p.108).
Alexanderfeld a Lutheran colony on the Black Sea (Stumpp, p. 98; map on
page 101).
Alexanderhilf -- a Lutheran colony founded in 1804-07 near Odessa/Cherson
(see Stumpp, pp.88,105, family names listed 564-68; map on page 100; family
names listed 942-43) on the Black Sea.
Alexanderhoeh -- aka Uralsk, a Lutheran colony founded in 1860 on
the to the east of the Volga, near Krasny-Kut (see Kalender 1955, p.108)
Alexanderkrone -- a colony on the Black Sea near Alexanderfeld (Stumpp,
map on page 101) [might be Alexanderwhol?? see below -- rak].
Alexandertal -- a Lutheran colony founded 1853 or so just west of
the Volga -- there is a map at
Map showing
its location, click it.
Alexandertal -- a colony founded in 1829 by Mennonites in the
Halbstad district [near the Black Sea??] (see Stumpp, p.97) [might be listed
on map p. 101 as Alexanderfeld?? However, the map on p.23 makes it look like
the Mennonite Alexandertal was northeast of the Volga colonies?? rak].
Alexanderwohl -- a village founded in 1821 by Mennonites in the
Halbstad district [near the Black Sea??] (see Stumpp, p.97) [this might be the
place listed on the p.101 map as Alexanderkrone?? rak].
Alexandrow b. Lodz -- place in Poland from which Germans migrated to
South Russia (see Stumpp, p.109 and map VIII H-2).
Alexanderdrowka -- also called Billersfeld, a Lutheran colony
established about 1860 in Jekaterinoslaw (Stumpp, families listed pp. 851-54).
Alexandrowsk -- a Russian city neighboring Chortitza (Stumpp, map on
page 101).
