Based on info in this Census, it appears that one John BORLAND, quite probably son of Abraham and brother of Matthew, married Amanda. Since Matthew does not appear in either the 1880 Census or the 1900 Census, I presume that he died prior to 1880. Another implication is that John somehow divorced his first wife, Mary E BIDDLE, before he married Amanda. [[PDA, 24-Jan-02]]

OBITUARY
Mrs Amanda A Borland, widow of the late John Borland, died at her home, in the Fourth district, early last Friday morning, aged 81 years. Her first husband was Matthew Borland, and later she married John Borland. Six children by the former survive her -- three sons, Delaplaine, of Piedmont, WV; Henry M and Washington Borland, and three daughters -- Mrs John Wilson, Mrs George Peterson and Mrs Heston Crossan. Her funeral was held on Monday, with interment at Sharp's Cemetery.503
