His parents were also natives of Kentucky. His life was a successful one, starting in life as he did with a bare pittance of less than $100. The first tax he paid was 30 cents. He, by his force of character and determination, rose to an enviable position among his fellow farmers. He was owner of 1000 acres of land and was one of the most progressive farmers in the township.
