Abraham Huddleston began his marriage to Mary Roe on a farm near Columbus, OH. Later they moved near Newport in Vermilion Co, IN. In 1832 they moved to Gillespie Township, Macoupin Co, IL with their 16 year old son. They came with an on-team in a prairie schooner, camping out along the way. Upon their arrival they secured some Government land on section 4 of Gillespie Township and began their western life after the primitive style of those times. The 1850 Macoupin Co, IL Census shows Abraham (54 born in VA) and his wife, Mary (54 born in VA) living with thier son, Daniel Huddleston (32 born in OH) and his wife, Rachel (24 born in IN) along with thier children, Chester (10 born in IL), Julia (4 born in IL), J.W. (2 born in IL) and Caroline (1 month born in IL). Abraham was a farmer. Mary died in the original home in 1852, past 50 years of age. Abraham married twice after her death. His last wife survived him. They were identified with the Old School Baptist Church and Abraham agreed with the views of the Democratic Party. He was well known through not only the township but the county as well. Only two of their children grew to maturity, Daniel and his sister Jane, who died near Clyde in 1889 at 72 years of age.
