Birthdate confirmed by 1860/1870 Census, but 202 says it is 1859, instead of 1858.

In 1883, the Adamses (see below) sold their general store at Brutus, VA (Pittsylvania Co) to James A Jacobs. This store was owned by Dr John Robertson during the Civil War, then it was sold to Coleman Pugh, then to John Adams and to his nephew Richard Adams.23

OBITUARY
Mrs. Lelia R. Jacobs
GRETNA, March 30-Mrs. Lelia Rowles Jacobs, 83, died at her home near Sycamore today at 4 a. m.
She was the widow of the late of the late James A. Jacobs, and a daughter of the late Grayson and Mary Shelhorse Rowles.
She is survived by three sons. Husie Jacobs, Grayson Jacobs and Buster Jacobs, all of Sycamore; two daughters, Mrs. Charlie Rowland of Sycamore and Mrs. Raymond Talbott of Hurt; two stepsons, Taylor Jacobs, of Lynchburg,
And Lem Jacobs, of Petersburg; four step-daughters, Mrs. George Shields, of Richmond; Mrs. J. T. Yates, Mrs. J. W. Mathews and Mrs. N. R. Owen, all of Lynchburg; a brother, Buford Rowles, of Gretna, and three sisters, Mrs. George Johnson, of Ringgold, Mrs. Edgar Hamlett and Mrs. Abraham Yates, of Rice.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Spring Road Baptist Church Tuesday at 2 p. m. Interment will be in the family cemetery near the home.408
