Halifax County Courthouse, Deedbook 60, pages 463-464, a deed made the 17th day of November 1865 between John PUGH and Martha (John R ROARK's daughter), John R ROARK, of the county of Campbell, Elizabeth ROARK (John R ROARK's daughter) of the county of Halifax and James E and Martha JOHNSON, of the county of Halifax where the Roark's sold a lot in the Town of Banister to the Johnsons. The following names were signers of this deed - Susan L ROARK, Bettie E (Elizabeth) ROARK, John R ROARK, John E PUGH, and Martha A PUGH.
