Date of death in the Farmer/Frans family bible is hard to read and may be the 4th or 7th of December, 1821.
276Vol 23, page 50, LDS film 0033315, 21 January 1822On the motion of Absolom Farmer who made oath according to law and with Isham Farmer his security entered into and acknowledged their bond in the penalty of $3000 conditioned as the law directs. Certification is granted him for obtaining letters of administration of the estate of Stephen Farmer due in due form.
275Vol 31, page 110, LDS film 0033318, 16 September 1833Isham Farmer having been at the last court. Absolom Farmer having been duly summoned to give Isham Farmer counter security for his due and faithful administration of the estate of Stephen Farmer deceased and not appearing. the court doth revoke and annul the power and authority of said Absolom as the administrator of said Stephen Farmer deceased. Whereupon on motion of Frances Farmer who made oath according to law and together with Thomas T. Williams, Smith Douglas, William D. Williams and Jennings C. Thompson entered into and acknowledged bond in the penalty of five thousand dollars conditioned as the law directs ___? is granted her for obtaining the letters of administration on the said estate in due form.

This day this cause came in to be heard on the behalf of the complainants and the answer (?) of the defendant Frances Farmer ____? ____? by ___? upon consideration whereof the court doth adjudge, order & decree that Daniel Coleman, James A. Luck, William Womack, John Jones & Edmund Fitzgerald or any three of them who are hereby appointed Commissioners (?) for that purpose to proceed to allot to the said Frances Farmer one equal third part in value of the land in the bill mentioned (the tract of land on which the said Stephen farmer lived & died) & that they proceed after advertising the rime and place of sale for a reasonable time at the most public places in the neighborhood to sell the whole of the land tract at pubic auction subject to the dower of the said Frances Farmer one half for cash & the other half on ___? of twelve months taking bond with approved security for the purchase money that the said Commissioners (?) do giveth and proceed to allot the said Frances Farmer one equal third part in value of the following slaves to wit Sookey, ___?, Jack, Peter, Bob, Mary, Chancy, Jerry, Becky & Henry as her distributable share of the same and that they distribute the remainder of said slaves (if practicable) into five equal lots & assign one lot to Bird Farmer, one to Wm. Farmer, one to Franky Farmer (Pat's Note: this must be Frances), one to James H. Sidebottom on the right of his wife Susan and one to Wm. Owen on the right of his wife Betsy, but if the said court (?) shall be of the opinion that an equal distribution in kind cannot be made among the plaintiffs then they shall have to divide the slaves in kind as above directed so far as an equal division can be made and then after advertising the time and place of sale for a reasonable time sell such slaves as may remain, at the Court house of this Court on the same day of the Superior or County Court for cash and report this proceeding to this Court in order to a final decree.
275Vol 34, page 63, LDS film 0033319, 15 January 1838William Owen & wife Vs Frances Farmer --- Interlocutory
This day this cause came on to be heard on the bill answers and the forms interlocutory & or as argued by Counsel upon consideration. Whereof the Court doth decree that David Coleman, James A. Luck, Wm. Womack, John Jones & Edmund Fitzgerald, or any three do proceed to divide the following slaves to wit ……….. equally among Bird Farmer, Wm. Farmer, Frances Farmer, James H. Sidebottom in the right of his wife Susan, Wm. Owen in the right of his wife Elizabeth after having assigned to Frances Farmer widow of Stephen Farmer an equal third part in value of said slaves as her dower in the same the said division among the heirs of Stephen Farmer to be made in kind if possible if not the commissioners (?) are authorized to sell such of the slaves as may be necessary to effect an equal division and report their proceedings to Court.
27527-Sept-1838 Deed of Farmer Property To Rawley Thompson, as interpretedby Pat Farmer December 1994This Indenture made the 27th day of September 1838 between Frances Farmer, widow of the late Stephen Farmer De(ceased) Bird Farmer, Frances Farmer ( the younger), William Owen and Elizabeth J. his wife late Elizabeth J. Farmer and William T. Farmer and the said Frances Farmer in right of James H. Sidebottom and Susan his wife, late Susan S. Farmer of the first part and Rawley Thompson of the second part, all of the County of Pittsylvania & the state of Virginia, witnesseth that the said parties of the first part for and in consideration of the sum of one thousand thirty five dollars lawful money of Virginia. To them in hand , at or before the ensealing and delivery of these presents have granted, bargained & sold to the said Rawley Thompson one certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the County of Pittsylvania containing by survey two hundred and seven acres and on the Lynchburg road adjoining the lands of the said Thompson Jno W. Power(?) & others and bounded as follows to wit, beginning at a black gum corner of Thompsons old order and thence along Thompsons lines at S67 degrees E 86 poles to an old red oak stump on the said road then along the said road 57 poles to a pine on the south side thence at 40 degrees E 46 poles crossing offspring(?) branch of(?) white oak thence at(?) 7(?) degrees E 10(?) poles to a pine on said road thence along the said road 123 poles to a red oak thence at 27(?) degrees W 84 poles to a pine thence (?) NW 112 poles to a white and red oak thence N 43 W 142 poles to pointers where the new line intersects the old thence along the said new line to the beginning being the same land allotted to the said Frances Farmer out of the land of her late husband Stephen Farmer Dec(eased) as her power to have and to hold the said land and all the appertenances thereon to --------

It appears to the Court that the forgoing causes have been pending in this court more than seven years & there have been no orders or proceedings in either cause during that time it is ordered that they be summarily stricken from the docket.
