OBITUARYErnest W. Miller (March 1961)
Ernest Welcome Miller, 76, retired employee of the Southern Railway Co., died at 11:45 p. m. Thursday at his home, Route 2, Hurt.
Born in Pittsylvania County July 4, 1884, he was the son of Lynn and Sallie Bobbitt Miller.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Emma Scruggs Miller; three sons, Joe Miller and Odell Miller of Hurt and Randolph Miller of Baltimore; two daughters, Mrs. Raymond Jones of Charlotte Court House and Mrs. John Molnar of Hurt; two sisters, Mrs. Laura McGuire of Lynchburg, and Mrs. Lillie Guard of Mullins, W. VA.; 14 grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday from New Prospect Baptist Church by Rev. Carl Flick and the Rev. H. F. Hamilton, Jr. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Raymond Trent, Willie Trent, Randy Miller, Glen Miller, Joe Doss, Gene Hall, Earl Miller and Lloyd Miller.

Mrs. Emma Scruggs Miller, 81, of Rt.2, Hurt, died at 2:15 a.m. in Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the widow of Ernest W. Miller.
Born in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Ben Scruggs and Henry Jacobs Scruggs. She was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church.
Surviving are three sons, Joe Miller of Blackstone, Odell Mill of Hurt, Randolph Miller of Balitmore, Md.; two daughters, Mrs. Raymond Jones of Charlotte Court House, Mrs. John Molnar of Hurt; three brothers, Joseph Scruggs, James H. Scruggs, Orie Scruggs, all of Hurt; 13 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and a great great grandchild.
