Know all men by these presents, that I James H. Sidebottom of the County of Lincoln and State of Missouri, in consideration of the sum of thirty dollars to me in hand paid by Marbell H. Whitehead, and also twenty nine dollars and eighty cents unto to me in hand paid by Samuel Farmer of St. Charles County and State aforesaid and the first name (Whitehead) of the County of Lincoln and State aforesaid, the receipt whereof for the several sums above named is hereby acknowledged have granted, bargained and sold and so by these presents grant bargain and sell unto the above named Marbell H. Whitehead and Samuel Farmer, their heirs and assigns the following described personal property, to wit: Fourteen hundred pounds leaf tobacco, Two hundred and fifty pounds manufactured ditto, One Barrel whiskey containing thirty eight gallons, fifteen gallons American brandy, ten plane (sic) glass decanters, two dozen black ink bottles, six bottles cordial, two dozen glass tumblers, one molasses faucet, two whiskey faucets, two hogs, two sack salt, and one sign. To have and to hold all the above described personal property unto them the above named Marbell H. Whitehead and Samuel Farmer, their heirs and assigns forever. And I the said James H. Sidebottom, do for myself my heirs executors and administrators covenant and agree with the above named Marbell H. Whitehead and Samuel Farmer, their heirs and assigns, that I will warrant and forever defend the title to the above granted personal property, unto them the said Marbell H. Whitehead and Samuel Farmer, their heirs and assigns, against all lawful claims whatsoever. Conditioned nevertheless, and these presents are upon this express condition, that whereas I the said James H. Sidebottom, am indebted to the said Marbell H. Whitehead , in bond in the sum of thirty dollars date the 12th day of September 1841, and unto Samuel Farmer I am indebted, in bond, in the sum of twenty nine dollars and eighty cents date the 8th day of August 1839. Now if the said James H. Sidebottom shall pay or cause to be paid the said bonds according to their terms and effect, then this deed of mortgage is to be null and void, anything herein contained to the contrary notwithstanding, else to be in full force and virtue. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this tenth day of September one thousand eight hundred and forty two.

Be it remembered that on this the tenth day of September in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and forty two, before me, the undersigned, a Justice of the Peace within and for said County, came James H. Sidebottom, who is personally known to me to be the person whose name is subscribed to the forgoing instrument of writing, as having executed the same, and acknowledged the said instrument to be his act and deed for the purposes therein mentioned. Taken and certified the day and year above written.
