Jim did not sleep on a bed. Instead of a regular bed he had quilts and a pillow on a long wooden chest. He slept that way as long as they can remember. He had the top padded with layers of quilts and another quilt for cover. It was a long wood chest of some kind.417

Thorp Funeral is Conducted
Throckmorton-April 12 (Special) - James Thorp, 83, retired jeweler and long time resident of this area, died Monday after a long illness. Funeral services were at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church here with Rev. Edgar Jones, Pastor, officiating. Burial was in Throckmorton cemetery.
Thorp was born Jan. 12, 1872 in Shackelford County and came to Throckmorton county, settling in Throckmorton in 1889. At one time he operated Thorp's Jewelry here and was injured during a robbery of his store.
Survivors include one brother, W. G. Thorp of Throckmorton; three sisters, Mrs. W. T. Andrews, San Angelo, Mrs. W. R. Free, Albany, and Mrs. Mary Gaither, Throckmorton. (Wichita Falls, 4-13-55).417
