DANVILLE, VA - Ida Hylton Dawson, 82, of 145 Arnett Blvd, Apt F3, died Friday, January 27, 2006, at Piney Forest Health Care Center. She had had a decline in health for the past five years and was in the nursing home for one day.
Born January 26, 1924, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of the late George Hylton and the late Margaret Likens Hylton.
She lived her entire life in the Westover Hills and Pittsylvania County areas. She worked for Dan River, Inc for approximately 40 years before retiring at age 62. She was a member of The Tabernacle.
She was first married to William S Hyler Sr., who predeceased her. She later married Edward Dawson, who also predeceased her.
She is survived by a son, a daughter, a brother, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands, she was predeceased by a daughter, Gloria Jean Hyler; two brothers, Charles E Hylton and Powell Hylton; and a sister, Annie Cook.
A graveside service will be held at 2 pm on Monday, January 30, at Highland Burial Park with the Rev R J Barber Jr officiating.
The family received friends from 7 to 8:30 pm on Sunday at Swicegood Funeral Home, 564 West Main Street; at other times they will be at the residence of William S Hyler Jr, 226 Bailey Place in Swain Acres; also at the residence of Margaret Carlton, 607 Edgewood Drive.
