Jefferson County was organized on December 8, 1818 (effective January 1, 1819) from St. Louis and Ste. Genevieve Counties and named for Thomas Jefferson. The county seat is Hillsboro, Missouri (ZIP 63050). (Just as a side note, our Missouri State Capitol city of Jefferson City is NOT located in Jefferson County. If you are looking for Jefferson City it is located in Cole County.)
