35. James Robert⁴ Kimler (Moses³, John², John¹) was born Aug 16, 1811 in Loudoun Co, VA, and died Apr 08, 1900 in McLean Co, IL. He married Cassandra Jane Clearwaters Jan 28, 1838 in McLean Co, IL, daughter of Reuben Clearwaters and Jane Miller. She was born Oct 22, 1821 in Putnam Co, IN, and died Feb 23, 1893 in McLean Co, IL.

Notes for James Robert Kimler:
"Biographical Album of McLean County, IL, 1887" says James was an honored pioneer of McLean Co. He was 4 years old when his family moved from VA to KY. He stayed with his parents until 1832. He then came to McLean Co, IL, to work for his uncle John Kimler for 2 years. In 1834, James went to Milwaukee, WI with the 3 Orendorff brothers, sharing 1 horse amoung the 4. They were employed by those wishing to stake a claim, by showing them land and building cabins. In fall 1838, he returned to LeRoy. In the spring he purchased cattle and drove them to Milawaukee. He did this for 2 or 3 more years. In 1839, he purchased his own claim of 800 acres along with Benjamin Cox, now in the city limits of Milwaukee. In 1840, James returned to LeRoy and bought land on the northwest side of town. He farmed there until 1846, when he went into the mercantile business. After 5 years, he sold his interests and returned to farming. In 1883, James sold his farm and moved into LeRoy. He ran an grain elevator for 2 years until it burned down. James was a trustee and steward of the church. He was a part of the temperance movement and then got involved with the cause of prohibition. From "Goodtimes in McLean Co"on pg 570, his wife is named Cassandra Jane, and they were living at Leory, IL. There is a 3 page biography on him. In addition to the information above, it says James came back to McLean Co, IL, in 1840 (from Milwaukee) because of his wife's health. He and Cassandra had 7 children.
