John C. Pierce 1819-1900 was born in Virginia,
shown as West Virginia in some census records. He married Lavina
Jones 1828-1914 who was born in Indiana. John was the son of
Thomas Pierce and wife, Elizabeth who had the following children:

This family lived Tipton and Marion Counties,
Indiana...I have located them on 1860 and 1870 census in Franklin
Twsp., Marion Co., Indiana.
John C. Pierce, son of above Thomas the
progenitor, had children with Lavina
Jones Pierce as follows:
Frances Born 1849-1860

James Bufford 1852-1939 married Kaijah Jewell

Lavina 1865-1941 m. Edward McAlister
Ida Elizabeth 1868-188?

It appears the progenitor of the family,
Thomas Pierce, did not leave Indiana, but his son, John C. Pierce
moved to Cowley County, Kansas along with his wife, Lavina, and
all of his children sometime after 1872.
John made the run into Oklahoma with a
couple of his sons, one of whom,
Madison was a sheriff and schoolteacher. The other son, William,
was
sheriff of Newkirk, Kay County, Oklahoma for a time before moving
to Pueblo,
Colorado.
Another son, Bufford, moved to Dallas,
Texas where he died.
Home Pierce, his youngest son, settled
in Cushing, Okla. where he died in an oil field accident in 1914.
