The Pearces came to Maryland about 1660 and settled in that portion of Kent County which was given to Cecil in 1674 and returned to Kent in 1706.

Calendar of Maryland State Papers
(after 1737 Mar 3) Upper Chesapeake Bay. Petitionof various inhabitants and
grain traders to Gov. Samuel Ogle. By a recent Act of Assembly the head of the
Chesapeake has suffered to the grievance of farmers and traders, but to the
vast profit of Pennsylvania; the petitioners pray that the said law may be
repealed.

1 Col William PEARCE b.c. 1646 d 1720 m. Isabell HOPKINS Isabell's will dated 21 Feb 1728 of Kent 
Co. probated 22 Apr 1729 vol 1 p 332 William was the son of the High Sheriff of 
Cecil. He represented Cecil in the Legislature of Maryland in the sessions of 1694, 
1706 and 1707. In 1714 and 1715 he was the presiding judge of Kent County 
Court. Cecil Co. Md deeds bk 2 p 159 says William Pearce of Kent Co., Gentleman 
to Benjamin Pearce his son for 5 pounds, south side of Bohemia River in Cecil Co. 
14 Mar 1710.  His will 1720 Kent Co. wills liber 16 folio 333 Annapolis MD His will 
also in Kent Co. MD vol 1 pg 207ated 9 Feb 1720 probated 5 Mar 1720 His 
Inventory of Accounts Kent Co. Film 14165 bk 1720-41 p 38 dated 29 Jan 1721 
value £1023.7  His will mentions g.son Philemon CHURCH and g. dau. Catherine 
BLAY Her will mentions (1728) g.dau. Anne BOWERS wife of Thomas BOWERS,  
g.dau Isabella BECK wife of William BECK and g.dau. Elizabeth TERRY 
wife of Augistine TERRY Her inventory in Kent Co. MD p 242 film #14165 valued 
at 429.13.2 3/4  pounds dated 20 Aug 1729 mentions Mary Pearce widow of Daniel 
ch. Gideon, Benjamin, Daniel, Elizabeth, Isabella, Sarah 1.2 Gideon PEARCE 
gentleman d Aug 1751 m. Anne WHEELER dau of John WHEELER and sister to 
Sarah WHEELER wife of Thomas CHRISTIAN and Mary WHEELER wife of 
Richard PENNINGTON. These sisters are  mentioned in a deed dated 9 Mar 1713/4 
bk 2 p 256 Cecil Co. Md. John  WHEELER being deceased. This deed states John 
bought land in 1659 on East side of Chesepeke Bay Gideon was mentioned in 
father's, Col. William Pearce, will 1720. Gideon's will dated 25 Sep 1749 probated 
13 Aug 1751 in Kent Co. Md.  bk 3 pg 155 mentions wife Ann and children James, 
George, Daniel, Nathaniel, Isabella, Mary, Andrew, Sarah KENNARD, Elizabeth 
SCOTT,  and Rachel. Gideon's Inventory in Kent Co. MD film # 14166 p 172 valued 
at 573.13.0 pounds ch. William, James, George, Daniel, Andrew, Nathaniel, Mary, 
Sarah, Elizabeth, Isabella, Rachel, Gideon 
1.2.2 James PEARCE d 1802 m. 17 Aug 1771 Catharine Susanna  SHANNON in 
Kent Co. Shrewsbury Parish. He and his brother George were willed the plantation 
"Colechester" by their father 1749 He was also willed a lot in Georgetown "where  
the school is kept" James was a Vestryman of Shrewsbury Parish. His will dated 21 
Aug 1801 Kent Co. Md bk 8 pg 125 probated 22 Mar  1802. In the will be mentions 
a marriage contract between him and Catharine Susannah SHANNON where 
she was to receive some lots  of land in Georgetown He willed his wife lot # 62 in 
Georgetown ch. Isabella, James, Gideon, William, Elizabeth, Ann, Catharine  
1.2.2.3 Gideon PEARCE m. Julia DICK on 20 Feb 1805 per IGI 88  batch 8336302 
She was the dau of Dr. Elisha Cullen DICK of Alexandria, Va. Dr. Elisha DICK was 
one of the physicians summoned to the bedside of George WASHINGTON during 
his fatal illness. Gideon was mentioned in father James' will 1802 to get a negro 
boy named Levi. Gideon lived in Louisiana ch. James Alfred, Ann Ophelia

1.2.2.3.1 James Alfred PEARCE b. 8 Dec 1804 at the home of his  maternal 
grandmother in Alexandria Va. He d. 20 Dec 1862. Married (1) Martha J. LAIRD 
m. (2) Matilda C. RINGGOLD dau of James RINGGOLD At 14 years of age James 
enrolled at Princeton College and graduated in  1822. He lived in Louisiana for a 
time with his father but later returned to Kent  Co. Md. where he remained. He was 
a member of the U.S. Senate being elected 4 times and 3 terms in Congress.
