Harlan B. BLACK

BERTHOLD -- Harlan B. BLACK, 84, Phoenix, Ariz,. Fomerly of Minot, died Thursday, Aug. 10, 1995, in Phoenix.
He was born June 30, 1911, to John C. and Edna B. BLACK in Plaza where he was raised. He graduated from Plaza High School in 1930 and the North Dakota State University School of Pharmacy, Fargo, in 1934. While in school, he worked at Trepanier Drug in Grand Forks.
He moved to Minot in 1935 and until 1939 operated Northwest Pharmacy in the Northwest Clinic Building. He was business manager of the clinic from 1939 to 1944.
In 1944, he purchased the Benno Drug Co., Minot, and relocated the facility to another downtown Minot location in 1952. In 1958 he sold the business to the White Drug Co., but continued to operate the pharmacy until 1960, when he moved to Encino, Calif. He later moved to Phoenix, where he owned and operated pharmacies in Phoenix, Coolidge and Yuma, Ariz.
He was once married to the former Faye NIMBAR
While living in Minot, he was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Bodies and he was a member and served a term as president of the Shrine Club. He was also a member of the Minot Elks Lodge and the Minot Chamber of Commerce. In 1948, he ran, unsuccessfully for the Minot City Council. In 1952 he served as president of the North Dakota Pharmaceutical Association, of which he was a long time member. In 1954, he was appointed to a five year term on the North Dakota Pharmacy Board.
Survivors: son, Gordon, Phoenix, Ariz.: daughter, Susan A. AUGSBURGER, 6702 N. 21st Street, Phoenix, 85016; sister, Necia BRATLEE, Devils Lake.
