Mary Matilda WILKINSON (BLACK)
1884 – 1950
The Teeswater community was shocked to learn of the death on Wednesday, May 31st, at Victoria Hospital, London, of Mrs C.J.WILKINSON, after an illness of a few weeks. The deceased had been in failing health for some time. The late Mrs WILKINSON was born in Bentinck Township on Sept. 5 1884, a daughter of the late Mrs and Mrs John BLACK.
On Feb 17, 1909, she was united in marriage to Charles WILKINSON and the couple resided for many years on the farm on the 8th concession of Bentinck Township, moving in 1943 to Teeswater to reside until her death, and where she made many new friends with her smiling face and friendly ways.
Surviving besides her husband are six sons, Kenneth of Teeswater, John of Sault Ste. Marie, Arthur of Bentinck Township, Gordon of Teeswater, William of Hanover and Bertram at home in Teeswater; and one daughter, (Ada) Mrs Russel BELL of Culross. Also 13 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Four sisters sisters and one brother also survive (Margaret) Mrs T.H. LATIMER of Rawdon, Quebec; (Bertha) Mrs Sam DICKSON , Hanover; (Eva) Mrs Jack MCCONKEY, Teeswater; (Gertie) Mrs Ed NOBLE, Paisley; and Robert of Algona, Washington. Two sisters and four brothers predeceased her.
Funeral services were held at the family residence, Teeswater, on Saturday, June 3rd, at 2 o’clock, conducted by Rev. David Proctor of Teeswater United Church of which deceased was a faithful member. Interment took place in Elmwood cemetery.
Pallbearers by request of deceased were Kenneth, Arthur, Gordon, William and Bertram WILKINSON, and Russel BELL who took the place of John who could not be there.
The many floral tributes were a silent token of the esteem in which deceased was held, and were carried by Joan Harriston, Marjorie, Donna, Sharon, Mary and Shirley WILKINSON and Wayne BELL, grandchildren of deceased, also Marilyn WEDDIS, Marilynn and Audrey BELL and Billy MCGLYNN.
Many friends and relatives attended from Elmwood, Hanover, Paisley, Hamilton and Montreal and surrounding communities.
