Sarah Jane BLACK (Le Villain)

1871 - 1954

Mrs Alexander BLACK passed away suddenly after a short illness at her late residence in Hanover on Friday, September 24 in her 83rd year. The late Mrs BLACK was born in Woodstock on November 1, 1871, a daughter, Sarah Jane, of the late Robert Le Villain and Margaret Boyd Le Villain. She came with her parents to Louise, near Chesley and later moved to Elmwood. After her marriage, she and her husband lived in Bentinck Township and for the past 23 years, following her husband's death, resided in Hanover.

She was greatly devoted to her home, family and friends, was highly respected by all who knew her and was a member of Trinity United Church. Surviving is a daughter, Mary (Mrs Arthur WRIGHT) of Hanover, and a grand daughter, Mary Elizabeth. The remains rested at the family residence until Monday noon when removal was made to a funeral home for service at 2:30 p.m.

Rev E.G. Cowan conducted the service, assisted by Rev. W.B.M. Metcalf of Elmira. An appropriate solo was sung by Margot Couch. The pallbearers were Messrs, I. LATIMER, S. DICKSON, A.E. BALL and F. Pries. The floral tributes were carried by Messrs Edgar ERMEL, W.G. RAE, H.A. BOETTGER, A. MORROW, C. METCALF, J.A. METCALF, J.A> MAGEE, Dr L.S. STOKES and W. HENRY.

Out of town relatives attending the funeral were Miss Marguerite PHILLIPS, and Mrs Mrs J.A. PHILLIPS of Toronto, Mr and Mrs R.C. PHILLIPS of Chatham, Mr and Mrs George HAMILTON, Misses May and Ada HAMILTON all of Listowel, Mr I. LATIMER of Montreal, Mrs J. MCCONKEY, Teeswater, Mrs E. NOBLE and Mr and Mrs MCINTYRE of Paisley and Rev W.B.M. and Mrs METCALF of Elmira.
