Respected Citizen of the Town Succombs to Pneumonia on Monday

In his 78th year. Funeral to Walkerton Cemetery this Thursday afternoon.

An attack of the prevailing flu which he contracted last Thursday and which developed into pneumonia on Monday necessitating his removal to the Bruce County Hospital about two p.m. resulted in the death five hours later of Mr. William. W. Latimer, a well-known and highly esteemed resident of the town in his 78th year.

The deceased, who was born at Norval, Ont, in 1859, came as a young man to Enniskillen, Greenock Township, where he farmed and conducted a general store for a length period. Disposing of his property there he farmed for a time near Dunkeld, moving sixteen years ago to a rural property near Drayton, where he remained for five years, when he retired to Walkerton and has been a respected citizen of this town ever since. Among his other activities. He was caretaker of St. Paul's United Church for several years, a position he was faithfully fulfilling at the time of his death.

A man of an industrious turn, sociable disposition, and honest and upright in every respect, the town in his passing suffers the loss of an ideal citizen and one who will long be held in kindly remembrance here.

Surviving are his widow, the former Miss Bertha BLACK of Elmwood, to whom he was wed thirty years ago, the union being blessed with four children of whom there survive one son, Elmer of town, and a daughter, Miss Hazel LATIMER of the Herald-Times staff. A daughter, Eva, predeceased her father eight years ago and a son, Leslie, died in infancy.

There are three sisters, (Esther) Mrs. Hugh MONTGOMERY of Greenock; (Minnie) Mrs. Lane and (Jane) Mrs. Wm. DIXON, both of New Westminister, BC and three brothers, John LATIMER of Toronto, Thomas of Montreal and Robert of Voltaire, ND.

The funeral will take place from his late residence on Alma Street, West Ward, on Thursday afternoon to St. Paul's United Church, where commencing at 3 o'clock, service will be conducted by the pastor. Rev. G. W. Moore followed by interment in the Walkerton Cemetery.
