Hi everyone -

I decided to add a page where I could add whatever I wanted.........

I have an almost perfect husband, 5 wonderful children, a rotten kitten and no golden retriever....Marmalade died last winter.....

My family is an American mixture of Scotish, English, German, Hungarian, French, Swiss, Austrian, Protestant, Catholic, Quaker, Dunkard, rebel, adventurer, soldier, sailor, farmer, carpenter, - no Indian chiefs that I know of - but you get the idea...if you can think of it we probably had one.......

I zipped through History as a student - taking summer school classes and whatever short cuts I could find....now I've had the opportunity to do it all over trying to figure out why people were doing whatever it was they were doing.....Why is it I know nothing about Delaware?

I was born in Ohio, I married a seventh generation Texan -  another segment of History I was lacking.....If nothing else, I've learned that I don't know nearly as much as I thought I did nor half as much as I'd like! (Of course, any parent could tell you that!)

I believe strongly in the United States of America and the Bill of Rights.....I believe strongly in personal responsibility - when did that concept become part of the past rather than the present?

I'm glad that I am living now...I don't have the courage or patience of my fore-fathers/mothers!  I really like hot and cold running water and central air!

Drop me a line or share your thoughts below -

....please don't pilfer.

Corrections or suggestions are always welcome - I have five children and parents who supply all the criticism I can deal with.

As I continue working on the family genealogy I will come across a person or family that simply overwhelms me.......

I have a relative who married in 1687 - he was 23

They have babies in 1687, 1689, 1690, 1692, 1694, 1697, 1699, 1701, 1703,1705, 1707, and his wife dies.........

He remarries in 1708.  She has a new husband and a 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 14, 16, 18, 19, and 21 year old.  They have babies in 1709, and 1711.

He dies in 1717 and she survives almost another year.

There are 13 orphans ranging from 6 to 30 years of age......

Where did they go, what did they do, how did they live?

I have another  relative who is born in 1800.

She married in 1819 - she is 19 years old.  She has her first child in 1820, another in 1822, and 1823. In 1825 she manages to have two more. There is a gap - did babies die or was her husband away at sea? In 1830 she has her sixth child, in 1832 she has her seventh child and dies......

Her husband remarries in 1833 and this wife has a new husband and seven children between 1 and 12 to deal with......she disappears from our records and he remarried in 1836...........

This wife has a baby in 1837 and another in 1839 and she dies..................................

He remarries in 1840.She was born in 1811 so she is 29 years old. This wife has a new husband who is 41 and 9 children between the age of 1 and 20. She has a baby in 1842, another in 1843, and 1846, and 1847 and 1849.

In 1849 there are 14 living children ages 1,2,3,6,7,10,12, plus the older children at 17, 19, 24, 24, 26, 27, and 29.

Where did they sleep - did they eat in shifts?   How did they get enough food?  How did she remember their names? or her name?

How did the husband (now 50) find a place to sit down at home or a second of quiet?

Do you notice a trend here........young girls are born, grow to their teens, get married, have babies and die...........their husbands remarry and it happens over again and again and again.........

Let's think about this for a minute.............In 1800 John Adams is President.

There has been a "United States of America"  for about 13 years and there are 16 states:

There is a NEW Bill of Rights  13.gif (5878 bytes)  (This is Betsy's flag with 13 stars)

In my life time I've seen men walk on the moon, kill and maim each other in wars or police actions or what ever Vietnam was finally called.......but I've always had running water and electricity...............

I like having men open doors for me, dealing with "dead" things and being around to use shovels and other tools I can't seem to manage - I enjoy people with manners and some command of the English language.  I can't imagine why the phrase "equal pay for equal work" exists in this century........

I'm personally of the belief that abortion is the worst form of birth control, that guns make it easier for people to kill people and that flag burning shouldn't be permitted........BUT

I don't want to lose the freedom to chose a legal abortion....I remember when they weren't legal....let's not do that again please.

I don't want to lose the right to bear arms........Should only the bad guys have them?

I don't want to lose the right to speak my mind....however skewed it might appear to others!

Go back and click on Betsy Ross's flag and read the Bill of Rights

We are living our lives today because of the men and women who have lived before us...those who struggled, fought, learned, lived and died.  There are places in this world where women are still chattel and little more than baby machines....where a difference in belief can cost a man his head.  The United States isn't perfect; neither are it's citizens.  The United States is our home and we are honor bound to maintain and protect those rights and freedoms for which our forefathers paid so dearly.
