1. John PRESBURY (c1xxx-1648) was of Sandwich between 1641 and 1643. He dec'd and was buried there 19 May 1648. Earlier researchers provide traces that John left widow Catherine [1017], seems the "Katheren PRESBERRY" who m. 1649 at Sandwich to Richard CHADWELL [1017; 1001; 1019], one of the "ten men of Saugas" to lay out the town of Sandwich. Richard CHADWELL is known of Lynn, Charlestown, New Haven, and Boston. John left dau. Mary PRESBURY, whose birth was recorded at Sandwich 1644 [1001] and who later married Lodowick HOXIE of Sandwich in 1664 [1001]. Whether by wife Katherine or another wife, John perhaps left also son John, who seems older than Mary, perhaps born before the elder John was known of Sandwich. The younger John m. Dorcas BESSEY, dau. Anthony BESSE of Sandwich who arrived 1635 aboard the James and was first known of Lynn at now Essex Co., MA. At least for some period the younger John, perhaps with wife Dorcas, resided Saco, now York Co., ME; he seems known of Saco at the time of his dec'd.
Many families trace their roots to John PRESBURY of Saco and to Mary PRESBURY of Sandwich, presumably thus to the elder John PRESBURY. Abbreviated genealogies about the families of the younger John PRESBURY and of Mary PRESBURY have graciously been made available to help these families advance the genealogy of this line and to assist those in search of a link.
