Paul Romaine Genealogy Interests

I have a number of genealogy interests, including particular families, a couple regions (southeastern New York, northern New Jersey and Pennsylvania near Philadelphia), and technology. I also have an off-site collection of genealogy links that I have found useful.

Genealogy Reports

I'm interested in a number of families. Here are reports based on some of my data. I'm using TMG The Master Genealogist for Windows, by Wholly Genes Software. While I document everything, I do not post my sources online. Please contact me about sources, if interested. (I only respond to reasonable inquiries!)

Families & Lists

The Descendants of John Romaine of Westchester County, NY. I am descended from John Romaine (28 Jan 1798 - 13 Oct 1852), originally of New York City, but later (ca. 1835) from Westchester County, New York. He is buried in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. His sons were George W. (11 Jul 1826 - 28 Apr 1906), Jacob (06 Sep 1832-12 Jan 1890) and John Jr. (20 June 1838 - ca. 1911). (There is also a mysterious William H. Romaine buried with John Sr., for whom we have no information.) Jacob and some of George's children are buried in Sparta Cemetery in Ossining, (Westchester County) New York. Jacob is my great-grandfather.

Note #2: I believe that John's father may have been a New York shoe maker by the name of Jacob Romaine; thus he might have named his second son Jacob (1832-1890) after his father. But this is speculation! I have not proved this theory.

Note #4: July 1999: We have found John Jr.'s pension record for Civil War service (a 90-day volunteer). He was youngest son and he moved back to New York City. He died in New Jersey. He had three children. I have updated these attached pages.

Interesting Individuals

A number of interesting "Romaine" individuals: Benjamin Romaine, Dr. Nicholas Romayne, Rev. Thomas Romeyn, Rev. Dirck Romeyn, Captain William H. Romaine (1833-1908 - someone unrelated who confused me), Lawrence B. Romaine (20th C bibliographer and curator, also unrelated), and Paul Romaine (20th C bookseller, also unrelated).
