Thomas Austin Bond, a well kown farmer, residing a mile and a half southwest of Ordway, died at his home at about 5 o'clock on Tuesday evening, December 10, after an illness of a little over a week of influenza. The funeral services were held at the home on Thursday afternoon, Rev. G.W. Banks, pastor of the Christian church in this city, officiating. The body was taken to Wichita, Kans., the former home, the members of the family and Mr. Bond's mother accompanying the body, leaving Ordway on Thursday evening. Interment will be made at Wichita on Saturday.
Mr. Bond has been a resident of this vicinity for almost five years, having come to Crowley county from Kansas in February, 1914. He was born in Wabaunsee county, Kans., November 25, 1882, and was just a little over 36 years of age. On February 28, 1903, he was married to Miss Clara Whitely, at Council Grove, Kans., and to this union six daughters were born. Besides his wife and six children he is survived by a mother, Mrs. Mary E. Bond, of Wichita; six sisters and one brother. The sisters are Mrs. W.F. Bean, of Ordway; Mrs. Rena Goodman and Mrs. Anna Soderberg, of Wichita; Mrs. Celia Dyke, Mrs. Clara Smoot, Mrs. Maude Caple, all of Eagle City, Okla., and a brother Albert Bond of Eagle City. The mother and two sisters from Wichita were here at the time of his death, having come in response to a message announcing his serious illness. The two sisters returned on Wednesday to arrange for interment.
