David Starkey Bond
Alta Vista, Wabaunsee Co., Kansas, Thursday, 15 Nov 1917

David Starkey Bond    David Starkey Bond was born in Boone County, Arkansas, Oct. 15, 1843, and died in Wichita, Kansas Nov. 5, 1917, aged 74 years and 21 days. His parents moved with him from Arkansas to Putnam county, Indiana, and on Feb. 25, 1869 he was married to Mary E. Butler. To this union nine children were born, seven girls and two boys, eight of whom with his wife, survive him; one, Cora Dowell, died near Alta Vista, Kans. Sept. 22, 1903. The other children reside as follows: Albert Bond, Maud Caple, Clara Smoot and Celia Dyke at Eagle City, Okla. Osa Bean and Tommy Bond at Ordway, Colo., and Rena Goodwin and Anna Soderberg at Wichita, Kans. He also leaves, to mourn their loss, seven brothers, twenty-nine grand and six great-grandchildren.
In Oct. 1878 he moved to Kansas settling on a homestead three miles south of Alta Vista; later he moved to that town and from there to Thomas, Okla., where he lived until sickness called him away for treatment. It was while on his return trip to Colo., taken in hope of improving his health, that he was seized with his last illness and died at his daughter's home in Wichita.
Early in life he united with the Church of Christ, and for the past several years he has been interested and affiliated in the work of the Lord and at all times anxious to see souls born into the kingdom and the church flourish.
David S. Bond was one of those big jovial, whole hearted men whom every body likes; a man to whom a suffering or needy fellowman could turn in perfect confidence that he would find relief. He was an honest man and a good neighbor. What better epitaph could he have.
