Charles LeRoy (Doc) Waxham, 96, a long-time resident of Swink, died Saturday, March 2, 1985 at Pioneer Hospital in Rocky Ford.
Mr. Waxham had been honored many times at the La Junta Early Settlers Day celebration as the earliest settler.
He was born Aug. 11, 1888 in Rockford, Ill., and moved to Sugar City in 1901 with his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Charles H. Waxham. His father was a doctor in that area for several years.
Mr. Waxham attended Sugar City schools, graduating with the class of 1908.
He married Edna Wagner in Grand Junction in 1928.
When he retired from Holly Sugar in Swink in 1955, he was assistant master mechanic.
Mr. Waxham was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR).
Survivors include one daughter, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
At his request there will be no services. Interment will be in Fairmount Mausoleum in Denver.
Peacock Funeral Home has charge of local arrangements.
