Armstrong Graveside Service
Graveside service for Joseph Armstrong, 709 South Main, Rocky Ford, and long-time La Junta resident, will be held Thursday, Aug. 27. The service will be at Fairview Cemetery at 2:30 p.m.
Mr. Armstrong, retired Santa Fe Railroader, died Thursday, Aug. 20, 1981 at La Junta Medical Center. He was born Aug. 14, 1900 at Hill Top, Kan. The Armstrong family came to La Junta Feb. 14, 1937.
He had served on the La Junta City Council and was a member of the original Power Board.
Mr. Armstrong was past master of the Masonic Lodge and member of the Low 12 Club. He was a member of La Junta Elks Lodge No. 701 and a past president of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen. Mr. Armstrong was a member of First Christian Church.
He retired from the Santa Fe as an engineer on July 14, 1970.
Survivors include one son; one daughter; two brothers, Maurice E. and Donald R., Wichita, Kan.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elda; a daughter, Betty; one brother, Frank and a sister, Hazel.
Peacock-Frye Almont Chapel has charge of arrangements.
