Mary Ann (Waxham) Horton
Newspaper and date unknown
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the death of Mary Ann Waxham, widow of Albert Horton, which occurred this morning at her residence on Dunkirk street, after two days illness. Deceased, who was in the 81st year of her age, was born at Ely, Cambridgeshire, England. She came to this country, with her mother, when she was but twelve years of age and has resided in this town ever since. She is the last surviving member of a family of six children. Since the death of her husband in 1882, she has lived with her son, Charles C. Horton; this home has always been the center of attraction for her children and grandchildren. The infirmities of age confined her to the house for some years, but she has been in her usual health until Tuesday morning when she was stricken with pneumonia, tired nature could not stand the strain of such a serious illeness and this morning she quietly slept the last long sleep of death, to awake in the better home above where partings are unknown. Mrs. Horton was one of those dear women who made home her domain; her life was lost in the interests of her children and grandchildren. The last Christmas with Grandma will live long in the memory of the bereaved ones, for the last time she was out doors was on Christmas Day when the several members of the family spent the day with Mr. Elmer Horton. A mother's love and example are a priceless legacy to those who are left behind. Mother has laid down her burdens, while those who are left must tread the pathway of life until the great reunion day when all the ship's company shall meet together in eternal love. To the three surviving children, Mrs. Harvey Montgomery, Elmer and Charles Horton, to the grandchildren and other sorrowing relatives, we extend our heartfelt sympathy. Funeral services will be held from the family residence on Dunkirk street Saturday afternoon. Interment at Hanover Centre.
