There are multiple different birth dates for Jay Grant. The birth records
of Knox County published by the Knox County Genealogical Society list two
dates, each in a separate county record book. A "Clay" born 28 August, 1878,
in book 2, page 9 and a "Jay" born September 18, 1878 recorded in book 1,
page 376. In the census of 1900 he is listed as being born in October, 1879.
The 1880 census shows him at age one year as of June 1, 1880. I have,
therefore accepted Pearl Ross's date taken from the Workman Family History,
1962, as 8 September, 1878 realizing it may have been the 18th of September.
