California
Eldorado Co, CA
1850 Census Identification
  • p.261B, h.2 - possibly Richard Warmack >> William >> Richard (B.10)

This is a possibly a second enumeration of Richard Warmack, see also Washington Co, MO. See Benton County Tennessee Genealogy - Early Settlers Biographies (this external link worked as of 24 Jul 2006). According to a Warmack researcher, Richard Warmack went to California for gold. He was in the census in Washington Co, MO on 27 Aug 1850, and in El Dorado Co, CA on 7 Oct 1850.

Yuba Co, CA
Nevada Co, CA was formed 25 Apr 1851 from Yuba Co, CA. In the 1860 Census, Peyton Womack was in Nevada Co, CA. (Year: 1860; Census Place: Rough and Ready, Nevada, California; Roll: M653_61; Page: 402; Image: 404.) In 1840, he was in Lewis Co, MO. I think that Peyton's family was in California during the 1850 Census, because his son, Phillip A Womack, was born in California in Nov 1850, according to the 1900 Census (Year: 1900; Census Place: Honcut, Butte, California; Roll: T623 84; Page: 17B; Enumeration District: 16.).
1850 Census Identification
  • MISSED IN 1850 CENSUS - Peyton Glenn Womack (born c1808 in VA, wife Martha Agee) >> Robert V >> Massanello >> William (B.1)
According to Womack Register, Robert V Womack's wife was Martha Glenn, dau of Peyton Glenn.
Update 22 Nov 2009: The estate papers of Robert V Womack in Prince Edward Co, VA clearly state that Peyton Glenn Womack was his only living child.

Elizabeth Letitia Womack was listed as Letitia Taylor (15, MS) in the 1850 Census of DC. She was the dau of Jacob Burton Womack and Martha Letitia Dickson.

After Jacob Burton Womack died, his widow Martha married Lewis Littlepage Taylor, who was a clerk in DC in 1850. Elizabeth Letitia Womack married Jacob Jefferson Thompson on 20 Sep 1854 in St Helena Pa, LA.

Red Herring - Not Womack! NOT WOMACK! The undocumented "genealogy" of Henry Womack of Accomack Co, VA, purports that he was born in Middlesex Co, MA and married his wife, Phoebe Randall, there as well. Most serious Womack researchers believe this Womack line to be totally fictitious, if not outright fraudulent. Someone got duped by an unscrupulous "professional" genealogist. Anyone who disagrees should produce documentation which other Womack researchers can verify. See Accomack Co, VA for more information.

Wm Wamick (looks like Warwick to me), age 27, from Great Britain, arrived 21 Jul 1842 in NYC on ship Siddons
Robt Wamock (looks like Warnock to me), age 25, from Ireland, arrived 1 May 1848 in NYC, on ship Richard Alsop
Joseph (23) and Eliza (21) Wamocke from Great Britain, arrived 27 Jun 1850 in NYC on ship Leander
Chas Womack, age 24 years and 2 months, from Great Britain, arrived 20 Mar 1838 in NYC on ship North America; in 1850 Census in 5th Ward of NYC.

St Lawrence Co, NY
1850 Census Identification
  • p.292B, h.584 - Mary Ann >> John (from Birkin, Yorkshire, England) (G.1); living with uncle Thomas Derboson [Darbyson/Darbison]
  • p.292B, h.585 - John (wife Elizabeth Darbyson/Darbison, from Birkin, Yorkshire, England) (G.1)

John Womack's son John was born in 1828 in Yorkshire, England according to his Civil War Pension Record. In IGI, I found a John Woomack, son of John Woomack and Elizabeth (maiden name not listed), who was christened in 1829 in Birkin, Yorkshire. Looking further, I found that John Woomack married Elizabeth Derbyson in 1824 in Birkin. A Thomas "Derboson" was in the HH immediately before John Womack in the 1850 Census of St Lawrence Co, NY (I could not find him in 1860; he was in St Lawrence in 1870 and 1880). I could not find John Womack or Thomas Darbyson in ship records on Ancestry; I believe they came first to Canada and then to St Lawrence Co, NY (borders Canada).

Note that at the Birkin church on the same day that John Womack married Elizabeth Derbyson, an Ann Derbyson married John Calvert. So, Ann and Elizabeth were likely sisters who had a double wedding. An Ann Derybson was christened at the Birkin church on 19 Sep 1802, dau of Mathias Derbyson and his wife Mary (maiden name not given).

From Franklin Township [Brown County, Ohio] History

Terry Womacks was born in Virginia in 1789, and came to Ohio in 1806, and, in 1815, married Roxie, youngest daughter of Joseph Reynolds, who settled in Jackson Township in 1802. They settled on what is known as the Womacks farm, in Franklin Township, and here lived and died. There were born to them William H., Marinda D., Willshire, Wesley, Willis, Peter S., Jefferson, Ulysses G., Ellen, Lemuel and Francis M. William H. married Elizabeth Doty, and moved to Ripley, where he lived a short time, and moved to Rock Island County, IL, where he still lives. Marinda married John Milligan, and moved to Byrd Township, where they are now residing. Willshire married Ellen Inspeek, who died in 1855, and he afterward married Mrs. Roush. They moved to Missouri, and he enlisted in the Confederate Army. He was in the battle of Pea Ridge, and died from disease while in the Confederate service; his widow returned to Ohio, and is now living in Adams County. Wesley and Willis died while quite young. Peter S. married Amanda Heaton in 1848, and she died in 1870, and, in 1874, he married Jennie Hunter. They lived near Russellville, on the Russel Shaw farm. Jefferson was accidentally killed by a gun when seventeen. Ulysses G. married a Miss Moore and lives in Missouri. Lemuel served three years in the Fourth Ohio Independent Cavalry Company, during the war of the rebellion, and is now living is Des Moines, Iowa. Francis M. married Miss Rees and moved to Iowa, where they were living when last heard from.
