The following counties are where records of people with the Womack surname
(or variations thereof) have been found prior to 1851.
This does not include married female Womacks, or people who had Womack ancestors, but not
the Womack surname.

| Bedford Co, TN |
1850 Census Identification
- p.236A, h.151 - Hawkins (wife Jane Cooper) >> David >> Alexander (B.12)
- p.236B, h.154 - Mary "Polly" (LNU, probably widow of Alexander) >> David >> Alexander (B.12); MISSED IN 1850 CENSUS - several of her proposed sons, including Stephen, David, Wiley Green, and John Hawkins.
- p.254A, h.12 - Charles Wiley (wife Elizabeth A Hale) >> Michael >> David >> Alexander (B.12)
NOT WOMACK! Henry Warmoth (1785-1854) appears on the
the 1812 Tax List of Bedford Co TN as "Henry Warmath", but in the 1820 Census of Bedford Co, TN, he was listed as "Henry
Wammack". Two Bedford Co, TN Deeds (in 1819 and 1829) prove this was Henry Warmoth. He was in the 1850 Cenus of Edwards
Co, IL, where he died in 1854. See Warmoth Family
(this external link worked as of 5 Aug 2006). Note that this Henry Warmoth is distantly related to Henry H Warmath, who has
been confused with Womack/Warmack in Davidson Co, TN and
Madison Co, TN. Also, Nathaniel Warmouth in
Williamson Co, TN has been confused with Womack; he appears to be the Nathanial
Green Warmouth in this family.
NOT WOMACK! David Warnick (c1790, NC) who married
Eizabeth LNU has been mis-identified as David Womack. According to these incorrect geanealogies, David Womack and
Elizabeth LNU had children Hiram, Eliza, Palina, Catherine, Rebecca, Nancy, and Sara, all born in Bedford Co, TN.
In fact, this was David WARNICK, and the list of his children comes from the 1850 and 1860 Censuses
of BENTON (not Bedford) Co, TN (1850: p.298; 1860. p.329). In both censuses, the name is quite clearly Warnick.
In earlier censuses (1820, 1830, 1840), David Warnick was in Stewart Co, TN.
These very confused genealogies have David "Womack" as dying in 1861 in Howard Co, AR
(a neat trick, given that Howard Co, AR was not created until 1873) and buried in Corinth Cemetery in that county.
There may be a David Womack buried there (there were definitely Womacks in that area), but it was not this David, because he was in fact David Warnick.
Warnick researchers have David Warnick as dying in Benton Co, TN between 1860 and 1870.

Update 30 Nov 2009: Beth came up with the hypothesis that Newton's wife was Sarah Watson, daughter of
Joseph Watson and Tacy Jones; with Tacy Jones being the sister of Sarah Jones, wife of Michael Womack.
Both Michael Womack and Newton Womack had a daughter named Tacy, a name which runs in the Jones family.
Note that we know Sarah Watson's maiden name from the death certificate of her son James Andrew Womack (1918,
Cooke Co, TX). Watson researchers have found that Joseph Watson lived for a time in Tippah Co, MS. The 1841 tax list
of Tippah shows Joseph Watson and N C Womack in a row, and in 1840, Newton Womack and Joseph Watson were
mentioned in a Tippah Co, MS deed (D-15 28 Sep 1840).

There were four or five distinct lines of Womacks in Lincoln Co, TN before 1851, so care must be exercised
in separating them.
William Womack married Rebecca Thurman 9 Apr 1841 in Lincoln Co, TN. 1850 in Lincoln Co, TN; 1860 in Tippah Co, MS (Wormick); 1870 in Tipton Co, TN (Womick).
Henry P Womack and Temperance LNU - Henry P Womack (son of John Womack/Lucy Pryor) was married twice, he divorced his first wife, Frances (Cocke)
Womack in 1829 in Caswell Co, NC (see [NCROOTS] #5 Divorces Caswell Co. NC). Frances Womack, age 57, Henry's ex-wife, was in the
1850 Census in Madison Co, TN, living with her son-in-law George Anderson Connally.
Henry was in the 1820 and 1830 Censuses of Person Co, NC, and in the 1836 tax list and 1840 Census of Lincoln Co, TN;
he was missed in Lincoln Co, TN in the 1850 Census. The 1860 Census of Lincoln Co, TN (Dist 22, p.185, h.1263) lists Henry P Wamack (70, NC, school teacher) with
Temperance (50, TN), John (23, TN, also a teacher), and Lucy (20, TN). However, some of the children of
Henry and Temperance were missed in 1860. Temperance (59, TN) was the head of household in the 1870 Census (Dist 23, Lincoln Co, TN, p.492, h.101),
with Richard (27, TN, clerk in dry goods store), Henry P (26, TN, laborer) his wife Marintha A (26, TN, census taker noted they were married in Feb 1870),
and David (22, TN, laborer). Lincoln Co, TN court minutes for 4 Feb 1867 show that R G [Richard Green] Womack
was the administrator of the estate of H P Womack, deceased. Lincoln Co, TN marriage records show that:
- Lucy A Womack married Temple W Taylor on 20 Jan 1865
- H P [Henry P, Jr] Womack married Ruth Ann Berry on 10 Apr 1870
- Green [Richard Green] married Elizabeth Shelton on 22 Nov 1870
- D S [David] Womack married Caldonia Blankenship on 16 Jun 1871
All of these can be found in censuses of Lincoln Co, TN
and neighboring Madison Co, AL and Limestone Co, AL. Unknown what became of John
Womack (born c1837 in TN), son of Henry P/Temperance, after the 1860 Census.
Several deeds in Person Co, NC state that Henry's first wife was Frances Cocke, daughter of Captain William Cocke, particulary the
following deed:
From Person County, North Carolina Deed Books 1792-1825, Abstracts by Katharine Kerr Kendall, p.120
Deed Book D, p.379-80 Benjamin B Cocke, Rebecca Paine, John W Williams & Susanna his wife, Sally Cocke,
Robert Paine & Poly his wife, John Cocke, Martha Cocke, Henry Womack & Frances his wife - Benjamin,
Rebecca, Susanna, Sally, Polly, John, Martha, and Frances are heirs of William Cocke decd of Person Co - to
Jesse Evans for $632.25, 231 A on Flat R where William Cocke died adj John Cates, Richard Holeman,
Charles Holeman, Charles Rountree Jr, to Quarrel Cr. 28 May 1813. Wit. Saml Dickens, Saml Yarbrough,
Jonathan P Sneed, John Womack, James Saterfield, Lewis Daniel. Daughters examined by Jno Holloway & Jno
Rountree apart from husbands and freely agreed to conveyance.
As noted above, Henry Womack and Frances divorced in 1829. Some undocumented info on the web
has Henry married to Matilda Wells c1813. There is a marriage record for Henry Womack in 1813, but the full date and the bride's name were not recorded (or illegible); the bondsman was
Solomon Paine, and Jesse Dickens was the witness. So, no idea where the marriage to Matilda Wells comes from. From NOTES ON SOUTHSIDE OF VIRGINIA by
Mrs. Walter Allen Watson & compiled by Jean Stephenson, 1913. "Henry moved to Tennessee, had children by 1st marriage: Bedford and a daughter
who married Mr. Connolly. Children by second marriage not known at present.". I could find nothing about Bedford. Caswell
Co, NC marriage records have George A Connally married to Mary Jane Womack on 26, May 1830;
James E William [sic], bondsman. George A Connally was in the 1840 and 1850 Censuses of Madison Co, TN.
By 1850, Mary Jane (Womack) Connally had apparently died. Frances (Cocke) Womack, ex-wife of Henry P,
and mother of Mary Jane, was living with George A Connally in 1850.
Henry was in the will of his father, John Womack, and his middle initial "P" probably was for "Pryor", his mother's maiden name.

1850 Census Identification
- Rachel (LNU, *possibly* widow of Granville) >> Susannah >> Richard >> Alexander (B.12)
- William (wife Celia Tombolin) >> Anderson >> Thomas (D.1)
Could Rachel have been the widow of Granville Womack? (Wilson Co, TN - WOMMACK, Granville to CROOPER, Rachel 17 Jun 1824).
I do not know who Granville was. Given the ages, it is not possible that he was not the son of Richard Womack of Wilson Co, TN (Richard >> Richard >> Alexander).
Furthermore, I have seen no documentation anywhere that Richard was actually "Richard Granville Womack, Jr" and his father had the same name.
Some websites seem to "suggest" that Granville Womack who married Rachel Cropper was born out of wedlock to Susannah Womack (daughter
of Richard >> Alexander) before she married Joseph Hubbard on 22 Mar 1809 in Wilson Co, TN.
See Richard Womack of Wilson Co, TN Will.
Richard states that Granville Womack was the son of his daughter Susannah Hubbard.
