Charles City Co, VA

Charles City Co, VA was formed in 1634 as one of the original counties of Virgnia. Prince George Co, VA was formed from Charles City Co, VA in 1702. Charles City Co, VA is one of three counties in Virginia to have "City" in their name, the others being James City Co, VA and Elizabeth City Co, VA. This is somewhat confusing, since Virginia has several "Independent Cities" which are not a part of any county, such as Petersburg and Richmond (which is in Henrico Co, VA, not Richmond Co, VA).
