FOURTH GENERATION

1. John Jacob TROUTMAN was born on 2 Apr 1799 in near Troutman, Iredell, NC. He died before Dec 1831 in near Troutman, Iredell, NC. He was buried in St. Michael's Lutheran Cemetery, Troutman, Iredell, NC.

He was married to Anne WOOLFORD about 1820 in , Iredell, NC. Anne WOOLFORD was born on 2 Apr 1805 in Statesville, Iredell, NC. She died on 9 May 1875 in Troutman, Iredell, NC. Descending Jacob's Ladder does an excellent job of covering the family of Jacob Troutman (1799). Four notes of interest:

  1. Margaret Melissa "Peggy" Troutman (1822) never married, but had son Augustus Davidson Troutman (1845) out of wedlock.
  2. John Sidney Troutman (1827) owned slaves who were the ancestors of the modern African-American Troutmans of Iredell County, NC.
  3. Jacob Davidson Troutman's birth date is given as 5 Jul 1834 in Descending Jacob's Ladder. This is clearly incorrect for Jacob Davidson to have been the son of Jacob Troutman (1799), whose estate was probated in Dec 1831. A birth date of 5 Jul 1832 makes more sense. Thus, when Jacob Troutman (1799) died, his widow, Anne (Woolford) Troutman, was a couple months pregnant with Jacob Davidson Troutman (1832). The 1832 birthdate also agrees with Jacob Davidson Troutmans age in the censuses (in 1850 he was listed as 18; in 1860 he was listed as 28; in 1870 he was listed as 36; in 1880 he was listed as 48).
  4. Descending Jacob's Ladder lists two more children of Jacob Troutman (1799). These were twin girls, Jennie Adelphia Troutman [abf] and Elizabeth Anne Troutman [abg], who died as children, no dates of birth or death given. These are likely the two females aged 0-4 in the 1830 Census listing for Jacob Troutman (1799).
