A. Johann2 BASNER Jr was known as John after immigration to the U.S. He was born on 16 July 1853 in Mahlau, Deutsch Damerau, Stuhm, West Prussia, Prussia; "Deutsch Damerau is now Dabrowka Malborska. Under Prussian rule, according to Rudolph's Ortslexikon (1868 edition), it was a parish village in the Stuhm (now Sztum) district of Ostpreussen (East Prussia), and was located about 10 km NNE of Stuhm, with 485 inhabitants. He was baptized on 24 July 1853 in Deutsch Damerau, Stuhm, West Prussia, Prussia; Godparents: Jacobi Babiski and Julianna Remancasin.4 He married Marianna Johanna CHOINSKI, daughter of Joseph CHOINSKI and Marianna KURSKAWSKA, on 12 September 1880 in Deutsch Damerau, Stuhm, West Prussia, Prussia; married 15 years at 1900 census; 29 years at 1910 census.5,6,7

He immigrated between 1885 and 1888; 1900 census says he immigrated 1888 (12 years in US), she and children, Mary and Anna, 1885 (15 years in US). 1910 census says 1885 or 1888 (can't read) for John, 1888 for Anna and two children. 1920 says John immigrated 1885, was naturalized 1892.8,9,10 He and Marianna Johanna CHOINSKI appeared on the census of 8 June 1900 in Nelson Street, Lakeview, Cook, Illinois; Johan, 45, day labor, born July 1854, Germany; Anna, 39, born Oct 1860, 7 births, 9 children living, all at home.11 He and Marianna Johanna CHOINSKI appeared on the census of 15 April 1910 in Belmont Avenue, Chicago, Cook, Illinois; John, 56, occupation illegible, outdoors; Anna, 50, 10 children, 8 living, all are listed in household though I can't believe they all were living at home. All members of household have the middle initial of B., which is weird.12 He and Marianna Johanna CHOINSKI appeared on the census of 3 January 1920 in 3311 E. Ravenswood, Chicago, Cook, Illinois; John, 66; Anna, 60; Clara, 13; Agnes McKenney, 24; Dorothy, 2.13

John Basner died on 30 December 1932 in 3316 E. Ravenswood Park Ave., Chicago, Cook, Illinois, at age 79; of influenza and broncho pneumonia from December 21-30. Contributary causes of importance were: general arteriosclerosis, Myocarditis, chronic ----- nephritis. At time of his death he had been a laborer for Hooker Glass Co. for 22 years. The last day he worked was October 1, 1932.14 He was buried on 3 January 1933 in St. Joseph, River Grove, Cook, Illinois; undertaker was Leo N. & A. L. Briske, 3037 Lincoln Avenue.15

1. Mary3 Basner. I think this is the sister called Maimie. She was born in June 1883 in Germany.16 She appeared on the census of 8 June 1900 in Nelson Street, Lakeview, Cook, Illinois; Mary, 16, servant, enumerated with parents.17 She appeared on the census of 15 April 1910 in Belmont Avenue, Chicago, Cook, Illinois; Marie, 27, married 8 years, no children, enumerated with parents.18

2. Anna3 Basner. Her married name was Wanegar.19 She was generally called Ann. She was born in December 1884 in Germany. She appeared on the census of 8 June 1900 in Nelson Street, Lakeview, Cook, Illinois; Anna, 15, illegible worker.20 She married Alvin B. Wanegar circa May 1906 in Cook, Illinois; License 429635, issued April 28, 1906.21 She appeared on the census of 15 April 1910 in Belmont Avenue, Chicago, Cook, Illinois; Anna, 26, widow, 2 children, 2 living. Enumerated with parents.22

3. John P.3 Basner was born in March 1886 in Cook, Illinois.23 He appeared on the census of 8 June 1900 in Nelson Street, Lakeview, Cook, Illinois; John, 14, furniture factory.24 He appeared on the census of 15 April 1910 in Belmont Avenue, Chicago, Cook, Illinois; John, 24, no occupation listed. Enumerated with parents.25 He married Mamie Unknown between 1910 and 1920. He and Mamie Unknown appeared on the census of 16 January 1920 in 1915 Roscoe, Chicago, Cook, Illinois; John, 34, laborer, BORN GERMANY, immigrated 1899, naturalized 1907; Mamie, 36, born Germany, immigrated 1899. This is very likely the son of John (50) and the birth and immigration information is in error for him an applies only to his wife. Family oral history has John (117) married to a Mamie.26 He resided in 1932 in 4756 Magnolia Avenue, Chicago, Cook, Illinois; Informant for father's death certificate.27

4. Margaret3 Basner was born on 23 December 1887 in Illinois.28,29 She appeared on the census of 8 June 1900 in Nelson Street, Lakeview, Cook, Illinois; Margaretha, 12, in school.30 She married Jack Addison. She appeared on the census of 15 April 1910 in Belmont Avenue, Chicago, Cook, Illinois; Mary (possibly, but unlikely, Marg), 22, bindry girl. Enumerated with parents.31 Her Social Security Number was 340-07-2496 in Illinois.32 She died in September 1978 in Arlington Heights, Cook, Illinois, at age 90.33

5. Elize3 Basner was born in September 1889 in Illinois.34 She appeared on the census of 8 June 1900 in Nelson Street, Lakeview, Cook, Illinois; Elize, 10, in school.35 She appeared on the census of 15 April 1910 in Belmont Avenue, Chicago, Cook, Illinois; Elizabeth, 20, married 1 year, no children. Enumerated with parents.36

6. Pauline Anna3 BASNER was born on 1 November 1892 in Chicago, Cook, Illinois.38,39 She appeared on the census of 8 June 1900 in Nelson Street, Lakeview, Cook, Illinois; Lina, 7, in school.40 She appeared on the census of 15 April 1910 in Belmont Avenue, Chicago, Cook, Illinois; Leora, 17, "bindry" girl, enumerated with parents. Three of her sisters were also bindery girls and she returned to this occupation later in life.41 She married Ernest Benjamin HARRISON, son of Ernest Wyant HARRISON and Liona Levisa WALBRIDGE, in 1916 in Cook, Illinois; License #737131 issued 8/18/1916.42 She died in October 1992 in Des Plaines, Cook, Illinois, at age 99.44

a) Lione A.4 Harrison was born on 27 August 1917 in Iowa.45 She married John Hohmann Tracey, son of Harry Henry TRACEY and Marie Jeanette HOHMANN, in 1940. Lione's brother, Ben, married John Hohmann's sister, Marie. She died on 5 July 1974 in Chicago, Illinois, at age 56.

b) Benjamin Andrew Woodrow4 HARRISON was born on 5 September 1918 in Ravenswood Hospital, Chicago, Cook, Illinois; G. H. Bussey, M.D.; Dist. No. 3104, Reg. No. 32656.58 He was baptized in St. Marks Episcopal Church, Evanston, Lake, Illinois; He was given the baptismal name of Andrew after his godparents, Mr. & Mrs. Andrew Jansen of Evanston, Illinois.59 He married Marie Ann TRACEY, daughter of Harry Henry TRACEY and Marie Jeanette HOHMANN, on 7 December 1940 in Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Chicago, Cook, Illinois; Official: The Rev. Schweitzer. Witnesses: Evelyn and George M. Stuerzl, daughter and son-in-law of Ann Basner, Ben's maternal aunt.60 He died on 3 January 1989 in San Diego, San Diego, California, at age 70.
