In 1672,  he was a member of the Town Council, and the following year
he was on a committee to treat with the Indians about drunkenness.
"Seariously to consult and agree of some way to prevent the extreme
excess of the Indians' drunkenness. The sachems herein intended to be
treated withall, are Mawsup and Ninecraft of the Narragansetts, Philip
of Mt. Hope, Weetamo of Pocasset, Awashunk of Seaconnett; or so many
of them as do appear."
