John Tracey was born in Massachusetts about 1852. He was in Chicago by 4 July 1876, when he married Anna Elizabeth Conlin (Conlon ?) at Our Lady of Sorrows Basilica. His name is spelled "Tracy" on the marriage record and on many other documents.
The family appeared in the 1880 census as: Tracy, John, 27, tin peddler, born Mass., parents born Ireland; Anna, 25, keeping house, born New York, parents born Ireland. At home were Frank, 3, and May, 1, both born Illinois. Enumerated with the family were Mary Conlin, 14, Anna's sister, and Guy Dowd (or Doud), 18, servant/tin peddler, born New York, parents born Massachusetts. They lived at 1133 Lake Street, Chicago.
The children of John and Anna Conlin Tracey were:
- Francis, b. 18 March 1877
- May, b. 11 May 1879
- Edmund, b. 6 September 1881
- Frederick, b. 13 June 1884
- John J., b. 24 July 1887
- Harry Henry, b. 9 November 1893

John Tracey died between 1893, when Harry was born, and 1900 when his wife was listed as a widow in the census. Anna Conlin Tracey died 4 August 1924 in Chicago, Illinois and is buried at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
