James Walbridge first appears in Chautauqua county, New York, in the 1830 and 1840 censuses. Following the death of his first wife, Cynthia Judson, and his remarriage to Sophia Blood, he removed to Cedar county, Iowa, where he became a successful farmer and property owner.
