Each table of reconstructed family groups has been published in Adobe Acrobat format, enabling all the information to appear in one web page which is easy to navigate using the buttons: |

The best magnification factor to use when viewing the page will depend on the resolution of your screen display (eg 800x600) |

Use the 'Hand' cursor to move to other areas of the page.
Use the 'Magnify' tool to zoom in or out on part of the page. |
Because of the table format used, the individual source of each item is not annotated, as on other pages of this web-site. However, the sources are self-evident in most cases from the column headings, being from Parish Register entries, Civil Registration indexes, and Census entries as applicable. I hold details of the entries themselves on separate databases, but they don't form part of this web-site. Material from other researchers whose sources I haven't personally verified is shown in italics.
You may see under some members of a Family Group the legend "PRIVATE INFO - DATA PROTECTION ACT". This replaces information which I hold but which I'm unable to publish because of the requirements of the UK Data Protection Acts of 1984 and 1998.
Within the RIGGS Surname Study, I use a series of coding systems to make the information more compact. Each of the coding systems below is explained on a separate page which will open in a new window within your browser. This enables you to 'minimise' it onto your Windows task bar if you want to restore it again later for reference as and when needed. When you've finished with the relevant page, you'll need to close its window separately.
CENSUS REFERENCE CODE
This a 6 character code, internal to this Surname Study, that uniquely identifies the household and the person within that household for a particular census - such as 'VPLY11'.
PARISH/PLACE CODE
The 'Census Reference Code' incorporates the relevant four-letter Parish/Place Code, such as 'VPLY'. This Code is also quoted for Parish Register entries and birthplaces.
REGISTRATION DISTRICT CODE
Within the table of Parish/Place Codes, the Registration District Code relates to the District under which the Parish/Place was administered - such as 'DEV-PLY'.
Reference to a birth, marriage or death recorded from 1837 onwards in the Civil Registration indexes will quote the year and calendar quarter of the entry and this Code will identify the District.
Please note District areas often straddled county boundaries, and the county under which they are shown relates to the main area. Over the years a large number of the Districts listed were abolished, merged, re-named or newly created - details of these changes can be found on the GENUKI web-site.
