FOURTH GENERATION

8. Thomas II ROACH was born on 26 May 1805 in New Brunswick, Canada..(65) (66) (67)(68) Death certificate of W. A. Roach lists both of his parents as born in New Brunswick.

Lorna Tissington has birth date of 1805 for Thomas Roach (II), as does "History of Fort Fairfield."

He was a Farmer about 1820.(69) (68) Thomas Roach (II) resided for a time after his father's death at the old homestead in Fort Lawrence. After his first wife's death, he sold the property and moved to St. John NB. He was a Hardware salesman about 1850 in St. John, New Brunswick, Can.. (69)(68) After his first wife died, Thomas ROACH II sold his farm and moved to St. John and became a salesman for James HARRIS & Co. hardware store. He resided Bay de Verte, NB about 1850.(70) (68) He died in 1876 in St. John, New Brunswick, Can.. (69) He was ill with Lame.(68) James Dixon says that Thomas Roach (II) was "lame from his infancy." He was married to Elizabeth (Lizzie) ROSS (2nd wife) on 26 Oct 1854 in St. John, New Brunswick, Can..(71) (70) Elizabeth Ross and Thomas Roach were married by Wesleyan (Methodist) Minister William Smithson. From 1847-1850 he was resident minister in the Point de Bute Circuit (Point de Bute, Fort Lawrence, Bay Verte and Cape Tormentine). Thomas undoubtedly knew him from that.

The church record showed two witnesses to the marriage -- Isaiah Edgoff and Isabel Ross; Isabel may have been a sister of Elizabeth.

9. Elizabeth (Lizzie) ROSS (2nd wife) was born on 14 Sep 1838 in Pictou, Nova Scotia.(72) (73) (74) 1. Death certificate of W. A. Roach lists both parents as born in New Brunswick.
2. 1870 census of Lewiston ME shows her age then as 32, which would make her birth year as 1838.
3. Death notice from Lewiston paper listed her age as 67 in 1903, which would make her birth year as 1836.
4. Death Record in Maine State Archives gave her age as 67 years and 13 days. She resided St. John, New Brunswick in 1867. William A. Roach, Lizzie's son, was born 10 October 1867 in St. John, NB. She was, presumably, living in St. John then. She resided Lewiston ME in 1870 in Boarding house in Lewiston. (75) Acc. to 1870 census, City of Lewiston, Ward 6, Lizzie Roach, age 32, was living there and working "in the cotton mill." No mention of husband or child. There is the notation that she was born in Nova Scotia and both of her parents were "of foreign birth."
She resided Augusta ME in 1876.(68) James Dixon says that Lizzie Roach and her son, James Harris Roach, moved to Augusta ME after the death of Thomas Roach (II) in 1876. She resided Minot ME in 1885. In 1885, letters from a Lizzie Wilson are dated from this location (Minot). She was writing on behalf of an uncle named John Staples. This may not be the same Lizzie Wilson. She resided Lisbon ME in 1896. This location (Lisbon) was given as her address in marriage license of William A. Roach and Mae Mcneil in 1896. She died in Sep 1903 in Webster ME. (76)(74)
Death notice quoted by David C. Young from Lewiston Weekly Journal of 1 Oct 1903, read:
