16. Thomas ROACH (I) was born in 1768 in Cork, Ireland.(69) (122) Acc. to "Johnny Bluenose at the Polls" by Brian Cuthbertson, Thomas Roach came to Fort Lawrence from New York as a "late" Loyalist. He was Roman Catholic in 1768 in Ireland. (123) Thomas Roach was trained for the Roman Catholic priesthood, but never ordained. He was educated before 1790. (124)(125) Thomas was educated for the priesthood, but not ordained. He was "well-educated and reputed to have spoken a number of languages," acc. to "Johnny Bluenose at the Polls." He emigrated about 1790. (69)(126) He accompanied his father to Nova Scotia c1790. His father went on to New York, but Thomas remained in Nova Scotia.

Acc. to "Johnny Bluenose at the Polls," Thomas went first to New York and then "appeared as a late loyalist at Fort Lawrence in 1790." He resided Fort Lawrence about 1790.(69) He was Methodist after 1790.(69) (68) Thomas converted to Methodism sometime after reaching Nova Scotia.

Acc. to Wesleyan Methodist Nagazine, London, 1815, Thomas Roach was a Methodist preacher of "more than ordinary" competence He was a Farm owner about 1793 in Fort Lawrence, NS.(69) Thomas Roach owned a farmlater occupied by John and Howard Smith. He was also extensively engaged in merchandise and at one time in shipbuilding. He was elected as Member of Provincial Parliament in 1799 in Nova Scotia. (69) Thomas was elected and served five terms in the Provincial Parliament, serving 1799-1826. He was a Surveyor about 1800. (69)(124) He was Elected Methodist Steward for Amherst and The Rivers in 1802 in Amherst NB. (122) He was a Ship owner in Nov 1806. (122) He was buried in 1833 in Fort Lawrence, NS. (127)(68) Acc. to great-granddaughter Sophia R. Roach, Thomas Roach is buried notr far from the Information Booth at the New Brunswick/Nova Scotia border. He died on 17 Jul 1833 in Cumberland County, Nova Scotia.(69) (128)(128) (68) He was married to Ruth DIXON (1st wife) in 1793. (69)(124)

17. Ruth DIXON (1st wife) was born on 16 Sep 1772.(69) She was buried in Mar 1810.(67) "History of Fort Lawrence" cites a memoir of Ruth Dixon Roach's husband, Thomas, noting that "Rev. Mr. Knowlan preached the funeral sermon from Psalms..." She died on 29 Mar 1810 in Cumberland County, Nova Scotia.(69) (122) (67)(68) Acc. to "The Chignecto Isthmus and Its First Settlers" by Howard Trueman, Ruth Dixon Roach died 29 Feb 1810 and 500 attended the funeral. Rev. Mr. Knowlton preached the funeral sermon.

"History of Fort Lawrence" also gives the date of Ruth Dixon Roach's death as 29 Feb 1810, and notes that the tombstone in the Fort Lawrence cemetery gives the date as 29 March 1810. Children were:

Lorna Tissington says her g-grandfather was born 9 Aug 1794.

He died on 13 Jan 1862.(68) (67) "History of Fort Lawrence" lists 13 June 1862 as death date of John Roach. He was a Farm owner.(129) (68) "John owned farm at Miccan, was Justice of the Peace and a leading man in the Methodist church," acc. to "Dixon and Roach Families" summary.

Sarah Amelia Dickson's parents lived in Onslow, NS. John and Sarah Dickson Roach lived in Nappan NS "where he owned a large farm. Mr. Roach was known to be a man of strict integrity, a devoted member and liberal supporter of the Methodist Church, and a highly respected member of the community in which he lived. John and Sarah had a family of five sons and two daughters" acc. to Lorna Tissington, as quoted in "Dixon and Roach Families." He resided Maccan. (68) He was Methodist. "History of Charles Dixon" refers to the second daughter of Thomas and Ruth Dixon Roach as Jean, rather than Jane. She died on 4 Feb 1858 in Fort Lawrence, NS.(129)
child iv. Charles D. ROACH was born on 27 Aug 1800.(66) (67) "History of Fort Lawrence" lists birth year as 1799 for Charles D. Roach He died on 27 Feb 1880. He was educated Studied law.(68) As a young man, Charles D. Roach studied law, "but did not engage in the practice." He was a Farming and land surveying.(68) Charles D. Roach farmed at Westmoreland, then moved to Amherst where he farmed and was a land surveyor.

child vii. Edward ROACH was born on 11 Dec 1807.(129) (66) He died on 16 Jan 1879 in Pictou NS.(129) (68) James Dixon says that Edward Roach died in 1878, aged 71 years. He was a Lawyer in Pictou NS.(129) Edward Roach was a lawyer; he was Co-Executor with Charles F. Allison of the Estate of Thomas Roach. He resided Pictou NS. (129)
