He was a Bricklayer about 1749.(69) (68) Charles Dixon was brought up as a bricklayer, but at age 19 engaged in paper manufacture. He was a Paper manufacturer in 1759 in Hutton Rudby, England.(69) (122)(68) He resided Hutton Rudby, England in 1759. (122)(68) He was Methodist on 21 Sep 1759 in Hutton Rudby, Yorkshire.(68) He emigrated on 16 Mar 1772 from Fort Cumberland NS. (69) Sailed from Liverpool 16 March 1772 on "Duke of York" to Halifax NS, then to Fort Cumberland, arriving 21 May 1772.

He had a brother/sister named Edward. (122)(68) Like a number of the Dixon men, Edward became blind in his later years. He had a brother/sister named Sister, married a Mr. Scotson.(122) He was married to Susanna COATES on 24 Jun 1763 in England. (69)(68) (168) Dixon's grandson quotes a paper written by Charles Dixon saying that Charles married at the age of 31, which would have been 1761.

"Pioneers and Settlers" by E. C. Wright lists marriage date as 4 July 1763.

35. Susanna COATES was born in 1736.(69) She was christened on 27 Mar 1737 in Hilton, Yorkshire, England.(169) She emigrated in 1772. Also emigrating at the same time on the "Duke of York" was Thomas Coates of Thirlby-Near-Thirsk, Yorkshire; his wife Ann (Hood?) and children -- James, Robert and Mary. Probably a brother of Susanna. She died on 13 Jun 1826 in Sackville NB.(69) (169) She had a brother/sister named Isabella c1747.(69) Isabella married John Trenholm, settled at Point De Bute, NS; died 10 March 1817 in her 70's. John Trenholm died 24 Oct 1817 in his 70's. At least 1 son, John Jr. She resided Sackville, New Brunswick.(67) She was Related to thread mfrs. in Manchester, England. (69)(68) Children were:

child ii. Charles Jr. DIXON was born on 10 Jan 1766 in England. (129) He emigrated in 1772 from from England to Nova Scotia. (68) He was (1) Methodist about 1780. (68) He served in the military in 1782 in Fort Cumberland NS.(68) Charles Dixon Jr., with other youths from Sackville, was taken to Fort Cumberland to perform garrison duty. He was Traveled through US in 1803. (68) Charles Dixon with a young neighbor, Timothy Richardson, journeyed to Cincinnati, Ohio, much of the time on foot. There they had a boat constructed and floated to New Orleans. They then took passage by sea for New York; Charles became ill with ague, but eventually took ship for home, with a stay at Mount Desert because of bad weather. He resided (2) Kirkland, Ohio in 1837. (170)(68) He emigrated in 1837 from Kirtland, Ohio. (68) He was (2) Mormon about 1837.(170) (68) He resided (3) Quincy IL in 1838.(68) He resided (4)Kirtland, Ohio in 1839.(68) He was ill with Became blind about 1846.(68) He was buried in 1855 in Davenport, Iowa.(68) He died on 22 May 1855 in Salt Lake City, UT.(171) (129)(170) (68) Death record of Nova Scotia -- Colchester -- lists Charles Dixon, born in England, died 1866-03-13.

Dixon and Roach Families ms. says Charles died on trip to Salt Lake City, aged about 89. He became a Mormon and went to Kurtland UT (or Kirkland, Ohio) in 1837.

"History of Sackville" says he was blind and had a fatal fall en route to Utah.

Dixon history says he left Ohio in spring of 1854 to travel to Salt Lake City. At Rock Island (IL), he fell from the steps of the hotel because of his blindness; the injuries were fatal. He died 22 May (presumably 1854). He was buried at Davenport, Iowa. The family continued their journey. He resided (1) Sackville NB.(68) He was a Farming. (68)(68) Charles Dixon Jr. also tried his hand at brewing ale, built windmills, speculated in shipbuilding, not successfully.
