40. Stephen MCNEAL (MCNEIL). He was married to Margaret DONNELLY.⁽¹⁷²⁾ The parentage of James, William, Joseph and Stephen McNeil/McNeal is deduced from information provided by Terry Gleason. He notes that Stephen McNeil and Margaret Donnelly were married; Stephen died (drowned?) after 1831 and Margaret married again to Thomas Donnelly. She is buried in Bairdsville next to Stephen and Thomas.

The "Pioneers of Southern Victoria" reference supports this thesis, noting that there were three McNeil's -- William, Joseph, and Stephen -- lodged with Margaret Donnelly in 1851. She would have been their mother. By then, James was married and living with his growing family.

41. Margaret DONNELLY was born in Ireland. Children were:

ii. William MCNEAL (MCNEIL) was born in 1828 in New Brunswick.
iii. Joseph MCNEAL (MCNEIL) was born in 1829 in New Brunswick.
iv. Stephen MCNEAL (MCNEIL) was born in 1831 in New Brunswick.
