Page County History. Pub. by Page Co. Genealogical Society 1984 Helen (Smiley) Pierce was born in Page County in 1914, daughter of Robert and Flora (Gamble) Smiley. The house had been build around a one room log cabin and it was in that part of the home that she was born. Her husband was Donald "Swede" Pierce, who was born in 1920 in Fremont County, son of Samuel and Grace (Howard) Pierce. Children of this couple are Peggy Griffey, Farragut; Marvin, Sacramento, California; Darvin, Naperville, Illinois; and Stephen, Concard, California. Grandchildren are Robb and Eanna Griffey, Wesley and Michele Pierce, David, Jude and Chris Pierce, Shawn and Robert Pierce. Two great-granddaughters are Kathy and Marci Shearer. Don and Helen farmed for many years in Farragut and Ames, Iowa areas. After leaving the farm he worked in the plant introduction station at Ames for 10 years, then as a carpenter to Sacramento, California to spend the winter. He died there November 8, at the age of 64 after a short illness. Don was a lifeling member of the Methodist Church and Helen has kept her membership always in the Methodist Church. Both were 4-H leaders in Fremont county and in Ames; he was a Boy Scout leader, a Red Cross first-aid instructir and assisted in various capacities at numerous sports events at Ames Hight School and Iowa State University..........
