Hardin Co., Iowa 1981 - Historical Society JOHN H. PEARCE John H. Pearce was born in Cornwall, England December 1, 1840. He had a brother, William, born May 23, 1842. They immigrated to the United States in 1854 and settled in Hazel Green, Wisconsin. John H. Pearce, married Elizabeth Ann Ellis, born October 13, 1842, in Jefferson, Wisconsin on January of 1863. Eight children were born to them, namely: Anna, Minnie, William, John E., Joeseph and Lillie. In September of 1878 they moved to Iowa and settled in Jackson township, Hardin county, Iowa. He later bought 183 acres in Section 6, Jackson township, from E. S. Ellswroth in 1893. Here Harry and Hattie were born. Their children married as follows: Anna married Robert Stubbings (both deceased). There children were Carrie, Edna, Albert and William and they lived in Owasa, Iowa. Minne married John Lackey (both deceased). They and their children Gladys and Lulu lived in Owasa and Iowa Falls, Iowa. William married Maude Roberton (both deceased). They and their sons Clifford and Harry resided on the "Pearce Homestead". John married Bessie Knight (both deceased). They and their daughter Marie lived near Owasa, Iowa. Joseph married Myrtle Montgomery (both deceased). They and their sons Harold and Milton lived near the Pearce farm. Lillie married Geroge Robertson (both deceased). They and their children Gordon, Goldena and Bernice lived in Mitchell County, Kansas. Harry married Viola Robertson (both deceased). They lived in Mitchell County, Kansas. Hattie married Harry Costello (both deceased). They and their children Dorothy and Merle lived near Owasa, Iowa. John H. Pearce passed away November 18, 1920. Elizabeth passed away Auguest 26, 1917. Mr. and Mrs. John H. Pearce were Mrs. Sherman Aldinger's great grandparents on her fathers side. William Pearce was her grandfather and Clifford Pearce her father. The Pearce Homestead was bought by his son, William, later bought by a grandson, Clifford Pearce (deceased). It is still in the Pearce name. by Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Aldinger and family WILLIAM PEARCE William Pearce was born in Hazel Green, Wisconsin, on April 17, 1870, the son of John H. and Elizabeth Ann Ellis Pearce. The family moved to Jackson township, Hardin County, Iowa when William was eight years old. William Pearce married Maude Robertson, born June 14, 1872 in Jackson township, the daughter of George and Mary Moncor Robertson on April 18, 1899. They farm near the "Pearce Homestead", moving to Alden township and three years later moving to the "John H. Pearce Homestead". Two boys were born to them namely: Clifford and Harry. Their boys went to country school just south of the farm, later finishing hight school in Iowa Falls. Clifford graduated from Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls, also. Clifford married Tillie Mein of Ackley and had three children, Robert, Lillian and Doris. They lived on the "Pearce" farm. Clifford farmed his entire life........ Harry married Ilo Eldred and had two sons, George and Neil. They lived near the, Pearce farm later moving to Gifford and residing his last years in Key West, Florida, where he was a house contractor......... William Pearce passed away March 7, 1942. Maude passed away January 5, 1915. Both Clifford and Harry are deceased. William Pearce sold the farm to Clifford and the farm is still in the "Pearce" name.
