Jabez Rockwell, who died at Leonardsville, PA, in 1847: This Revolutionary War veteran received and elaborate funeral with a cross-country procession. There was confusion between different Jabez Rockwells in various lines, but the Researchers, particularly Mark and Lyle Rockwell has sorted out various northeastern Pennsylvania lines, determining this Jabez came from Fairfield County. James Rockwell of Scioto Co, OH: Descendants had him identified with that James born in East Windsor in 1763. But Earl Close makes a strong argument in his book The family of Linnie Fay Rockwell that James was of the John line. Some descendants are in the pool of the 2002 Rockwell DNA Project, which should resolve this question.
Joseph and Sarah (MEAD) Rockwell of Saratoga Co., NY: The tradition among this couple's descendants was that the family descended from the William line, the line coming through Middletown, Stonington, and East Lyme, CT, before this couple moved to Ballston, NY, by 1790. But Gaylord Rockwell and I independently came across documentation of the family in Wilton, Fairfield Co., CT, including the parents' marriage and several children's baptisms. We've reconstructed Joseph's ancestry back to John of Stamford, rather than William of Windsor.
John and Sarah (Whelpley) Rockwell of Wilton, Fairfield Co., CT: In combing
through the church and other records of Wilton, I dug up quite a few children of
"John Rockwell"--the problem being that there were two John Rockwell families in Wilton at the same
time in the late 1700's, both having their children baptized at Wilton's congregational church. The other family was that of
John and Miriam (Higgins) Rockwell. The will of Miriam's father Samuel helps to
sort out the members of the two families. The Research Circle has gone over the evidence
and reconstructed these two families, as well as that of the latter John's brother
Jonah, who
married Miriam's sister Mary Higgins. Gaylord Rockwell proposed a convincing solution for which
of the Rockwell grandchildren named in Samuel Higgins' will belonged to which family, observing
that some inherited land at Wilton, where John and Miriam lived, and the others got land in
neighboring Weston, where Jonah and Mary lived.
Uriah Rockwell of Butternuts, Otsego Co., and Orange, Steuben/Schuyler Co., NY: My research has uncovered his origins in Wilton, Fairfield Co., CT. He is one of the Rockwell grandchildren named in the will of Samuel Higgins. We've traced some of the others in the family, but we could still use more details on some of them, particularly Uriah's brother Noah and cousin William and Justice. I've also been trying to reconstruct Uriah's family group, and would appreciate hearing from any descendants. Contact me at: kwrockwell@yahoo.com
Thomas and Ruth (Whitlock) Rockwell of Lenox, Mass., and Solon/Taylor, Cortland Co., NY: Details on this family were a bit garbled in James Boughton's Rockwell-Keeler genealogy, with some confusion between two Thomases, one of whom lived at Ridgefield, the other at nearby South Salem, NY. The latter was the one who married Ruhamah Hubb.
Thomas Rockwell of Woodbury, CT, and Stockbridge, Madison Co., NY: Gaylord Rockwell has traced the Stockbridge family through Woodbury back to Fairfield County.
Stephen Rockwell of Providence, Saratoga Co., NY: I found evidence of Stephen and his son Jonah in Southeast, Dutchess (now Putnam) Co., NY, as well as Jonah's will in Orleans Co., NY, where he died in 1837. The researchers have determined Stephen's origins in Fairfield Co., NY.
Simeon Rockwell, b. ca. 1760 at East Windsor, CT: Mark Rockwell has
been investigating this individual, as well as various other Simeons. There were
quite a few of them in both the William and John lines, including:
*Simeon who lived at Danbury (Bethel parish) and in Dutchess Co., NY, before
settling at Kent/Warren, Litchfield Co., NY; and
*Simeon, son of the preceding, who was an early settler in Bradford Co., PA.

Another individual who is sometimes misnamed "Simeon" is
Simmons Rockwell of Roxbury, Delaware Co., NY, and Chautauqua Co., NY: John W. Rockwell and Gail Howell have been researching Simmon's life and lineage. Gail was instrumental in the discovery of Simmons' origins in Fairfield County, CT. Contact John at: jwrockwell1934@yahoo.com or Gail at:
William Rockwell of Preston, New London Co., CT: This mariner, grandfather of prominent 19th-century Congressman John Arnold Rockwell of Norwich, CT, has long been called the son of James and Abigail (Loomis) Rockwell, who are said to have migrated from East Windsor to Lebanon, New London County. Now Mark Rockwell has found evidence that this William was the son of another mariner named John, who died in 1753. This John was a son of Josiah of Norwich, not a William descendant. Earlier writers, esp. Henry Ensign Rockwell had confused this William with another one:
William Rockwell of East Windsor. Mark's research finds that James and Abigail Rockwell never moved out of East Windsor, and their son William stayed put and married Sybil Bancroft. Contact Mark at: rockwell@ioip.com
Josiah Rockwell of Hebron, Tolland Co., CT: Henry Ensign Rockwell's book also had Josiah, b. 1717/18 in East Windsor, marrying Lucy Lathrop of Lebanon, then part of Windham Co., CT but now in New London Co. The Josiah line also has a Josiah (b. 1714) who married Lucy Lathrop and lived at Colchester, near Lebanon. Thus developed the idea that Josiah and Lucy's children were William-liners, or that there were two couples of the same names. But Mark Rockwell and I have examined the original records and found that Josiah of East Windsor moved to Hebron, and his wife was Thankful Loomis. Reuben Rockwell of Enfield, Tompkins Co., NY: Reuben appears in the local land records purchasing a lot in 1817. A headstone in the Rolfe Cemetery in Enfield identifies his wife: "Urania, wife of Reuben, died July 28, 1829, aged 56 yrs. The 1860 census has Reuben, age 86, in the household of Ephraim and Elizabeth Rolfe (Elizabeth, 54, being probably a daughter of Reuben)--and his birthplace is given as Rhode Island. I'm still trying to identify his ancestry. Contact me at: kwrockwell@yahoo.com
