James Davis, the paternal grandfather of Lester M. Davis, was born in New York and at an early period in the settlement of Wisconsin took up his abode in that state. At the time of the Civil war he put aside all business and personal
considerations to aid his country in the defense of the Union.

James married Lucretia COREY, daughter of William Harris COREY and Katherine BURHYTE, after 25 April 1851. (Lucretia COREY was born on 20 May 1822 in , , New York ³ and died on 23 February 1889 in Browns Valley, Traverse Co., Minnesota ⁴.)
