| There are so many websites devoted to genealogy these days that it is impossible to list more than a small fraction of them, but here are some of our favorites: Cyndi Howells' Comprehensive List of Genealogical Websites is an excellent starting point from which to view the breadth of genealogical information that is available on today's World Wide Web. More than 62,000 links to websites in over 120 categories, including countries/regions! The site is regularly updated, and is searchable for personal home pages. Gives lots of hints that are useful to both the beginner and the seasoned genealogy buff. FamilySearch.com is the website operated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Salt Lake City, Utah. It contains one of the country's largest collections of readily accessible genealogical information, as well as powerful ancestral surname and topical search capabilities. Also, on-line access to the IGI, a list of Library Holdings, etc. Ancestry.com (aka MyFamily.com) is home to an extensive on-line collection of family history data. New databases and reference materials are added daily. You can also purchase genealogy software & books, leave messages on message boards, and create your own private website for free. RootsWeb (now joining forces with MyFamily.com) is the host for this Ryker-Riker website and offers many on-line genealogical services as well as links to other genealogy websites such as 'The USGenWeb Project' (awesome!), 'Roots Surname List' (over half a million surnames!), lists of immigrant ships, 'ROOTS-L Archives', etc. Save time by using RootsWeb's Metasearch engine to look for surnames on multiple databases simultaneously! GenForum is a 'message board' location that provides the opportunity to interact with other researchers by leaving queries/messages on particular topics or responding to queries/messages already posted by others. Note that a forum specific to the Ryker-Riker family already exists and is awaiting your use! Check it out now! Conover Family Genealogy contains an extensive database that includes -- among many others -- the families Van Kouwenhoven and Ryker. Genealogy Today provides resources for both the genealogy expert and the neophyte: reviews of genealogy software, search engines, a 'site of the day', and a Q&A section. Emphasizes practical matters, including use of the National Archives. Genealogy.com focuses on genealogy's commercial aspect, selling CD-ROMs, software, and books. But also offered are free online classes in genealogy, free Web space for family trees, and a Q&A section with 'Rhonda', a professional genealogist. The World GenWeb Project is a not-for-profit outfit dedicated to helping people find their familial roots. Click on USA to find public records and tombstone transcriptions by state. Also, there are links to specialized search engines, and an online Help Desk.
