David was born November 13, 1782 in Cambridge, New York. He first married Hannah Bowen in 1808. Hannah, daughter of Lemuel & Huldah (Eddy) Bowen, was born May 25, 1786 in Northbridge, Worcester County, Massachusetts. Hannah was named in the deposition of her brother, Eddy Bowen, dated May 14, 1832 and in the will of her father, Lemuel, dated April 23, 1832. Hannah died on December 15, 1835 at 47 years of age in Aurora, Erie County, New York. David married secondly, Martha Bowen, a sister of his first wife, Hannah. Martha, also a daughter of Lemuel & Huldah (Eddy) Bowen, was born March 20, 1791 in Northbridge, MA and died January 27, 1857 in Aurora, NY. There were no children by this second marriage.

David was living in Amsterdam, Montgomery Co. NY 1810, Johnstown, Fulton Co. NY 1817, Amsterdam, Montgomery Co. NY 1820 and Aurora 1735-57. He died on August 17, 1864 in Buffalo, Erie County, New York. David and both wives are buried in the East Aurora Cemetery, East Aurora, NY.

David's 2nd wife, Martha's tombstone reads simply:
