In March 2008 I received an e-mail from Jacki who is
a descendant of Martha COPENHARVE
WALBORN. Martha was the daughter of Jeremiah and Sarah HOKE
COPENHARVE . Jacki sent me copies of many clippings contained in
Martha's family Bible, including
the following that were published in the Butte, Montana, newspaper
where Sarah's son
Charles was employed.
Mr. Copenharve's Bereavement.
Mrs. Sarah J. Copenharve, the mother of Chas. Copenharve, the well
known newspaper man, died at Omaha, Neb., yesterday afternoon. News of
his mother's death was received in a telegram by Mr. Copenharve last
evening. The telegram did not state the cause of death, and as his
mother was in good health when he last heard from her, the news was a
shock to Mr. Copenharve.
The deceased lady leaves a family of eight children--seven sons and one
daughter. They are Edwin, Harve, William J., Charles, Maurice F. and
Eugene Copenharve and Mrs. Walborn. [Isaac
was not listed.] The daughter is a resident of Kansas City
and Harve is a resident of Wash...........
Mrs. Sarah J. Copenharve, mother of Charles Copenharve of the Butte
office of the Standard, died yesterday at Omaha. A brief telegram
giving the sad intelligence was received by Mr. Copenharve yesterday.
Owing to his inability to reach Omaha in time for the funeral, he will
not go. Mrs. Copenharve was the mother of a family of newspaper men,
four of whom are engaged in the profession. Three others are engaged in
other occupations. Five of her sons reside in Omaha, one is in Butte
and
the other in the city of Washington. She also has a daughter residing
in Kansas City. She was a woman to whom the word "mother" attached
almost with sacredness, a mother whose pride in her sons and her great
love for them was the satis.............ay of her declining years
Notes: Sarah Jane HOKE KOPPENHAFER / COPENHARVE was the widow of
Jeremiah
KOPPENHAFER.
