Obituary of Charlotte St. George Nourse The Fauquier Democrat, 6 Aug 1959, 54th year, no 34; pg 1 col 1. Miss Nourse Dies; Rites Held Friday Miss Charlotte St. George Nourse, 65, died July 29 at the Fauquier Hospital, a month after the death of her only sister, Miss Constance Nourse. Funeral services were conducted at Grace Church, Casanova, on Friday afternoon by the Rt. Rev. F. D. Godwin, Bishop of Virginia. Miss Nourse was born at Weston, the family home near Casanova, on December 20, 1894, daughter of Charles Joseph and Annie Carroll Simpson Nourse. A woman of great talent and charm, she had had a many-faceted life. During World War I she and her sister worked at the YMCA at Camp Lee, where their brother, the late Walter B. Nourse, was stationed. Then in World War II she was head of the first servicemen's club in Warrenton, and managed it until the advent of the USO. In addition, Weston was a home away from home for literally hundreds of soldiers, who enjoyed the Nourses' open-handed hospitality and generosity. For this contribution Miss Nourse was cited in a letter from Brig. Gen. W. Preston Corderman, and was saluted on the Breakfast Club radio program. A talented artist, she did charming black and white sketches of animals and landscapes. From 1927 to 1932 she was MFH of the Casanova Hunt, and was always an interested participant or spectator in local sporting events.
