Obituary of Elston Shepard "North Bloomfield-The untimely passing of Elston Shepard, 66, of Ideson Road, has saddened this community and Honeoye Falls deeply. Elston was born September 5, 1894 on the family farm on Boughton Hill Road and had made his home there until it was destroyed by fire in 1922. At this time the family returned to their mother's family home on Ideson Road where they still reside. He is the son of Will W. and Lillian Hunt Shepard. Even though he could hardly see, he accompanied his sister Helen to the family farm each day to do chores with the assistance of Charles Arner until they retired in February of this year. During World War I Elston served in the Marine Aviation Corps, being discharged in May of 1919. Following his discharge, he worked in Florida until he returned to run the farm for his father in 1923. As a charter member of the Falls Post 664, he was among those honored this past year. He had served as one of the early Commanders of the Post and had always maintained his membership though he couldn't always be active. He also belonged to Union Star Lodge, F & AM, Honeoye Falls Grange, the Dairymen's League and the North Bloomfield Community Club. Survivors include three sisters: Helen and Mabel at home; Mrs. Mina Proper of Saratoga Springs; and two brothers: Leslie of Short Hills, New Jersey; and Wendell of Lockport; also nieces and nephews, including Dr. John Proper and James Shepard, both of Honeoye Falls. A Masonic service was held Tuesday evening by the Union Star Lodge. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon from the Merton H. Kays Funeral Home with military honors by the Honeoye Falls Legion Post 664. Burial was in North Bloomfield Cemetery. The Reverend Erford W. Daniels officiated."
